PJSC Stroytransgaz completed construction

PJSC Stroytransgaz completed the construction of the Nea Messambria compressor station along the Kulata-Athens trunk gas pipeline in the area of Saloniki, Greece. Stroytransgaz executed the project on EPC terms, heading the consortium with Prometheus Gas S. A. Greek company.

According to the contract, Stroytransgaz implemented engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning. The Nea Messambria compressor station is connected to the gas transmission system. On December 17, the compressor station was jointly brought by the consortium into pilot production, which will continue 3 months. Afterwards the facility will be handed over to the customer for start-up. Under the terms of the contract, the consortium will fulfill its warranty liabilities for another 2 years.

The compressor station was designed for unattended run. The construction and installation was performed mainly by using Stroytransgaz’ own resources, with minimum outsourcing.

The productive capacity of the compressor station is provided by two Solar turbine compressors, of 7,688 megawatt capacity each, operating both in 100% load capacity, and in standby rating. The third turbine compressor is planned to be installed in the long term.

The Nea Messambria compressor station is the first and still the only station in the territory of Greece. The compressor station was designed and located so as to pump Russian natural gas, supplied from Bulgaria, and flowing along the “Blue Stream” gas pipeline from Turkey, into the gas transmission system of Greece.

DESFA S.A., operator of the Greek gas transportation system, is the customer of the project. The construction of the compressor station was stipulated by the contract concluded in December, 1994 between the governments of the Russian Federation and the Hellenic Republic.

Stroytransgaz signed the Consortium Agreement for the project execution on EPC terms (engineering, procurement, construction) in 2008.
