STG Group completed the modernization of the substation in Cherepovets

STG Group completed the integrated modernization and re-equipment of District step-down substation No.1 in Cherepovets. The works were ordered by JSC FGC UES. The facility was put into operation under voltage. The installed substation capacity is 420 MVA.
Within the framework of the step-down substation No.1 modernization, the old 220 kV outdoor switchgear was deinstalled. Instead, modern 220kV gas insulated switchgear and control gear were installed in the building integrated with the substation control center. Due to the new switchgear and control gear, step-down substation No.1 has gained some advantages including the substation space saving.

The modernized substation No.1 is equipped with the latest microprocessor-based relay protection and automation devices, automated process control system, a complex of modern communication systems and a security CCTV system. After the modernization completed by STG, substation No.1 became a modern high-tech urban electricity-generating facility. The works were performed without interrupting the delivery of electricity to consumers.

STG has been the General Contractor of construction and modernization of power grid facilities in the Vologda Region since 2010. During this period the company has installed a transformer capacity of 1904 MVA and built a new 220 kV HV line with the length of 82.2 km.

District step-down substation No.1 was built in 1962 on the outskirts of Cherepovets, in the settlement of Yasnaya Polyana. This is one of the most important facilities of the Vologda power supply system. Such industrial giants as JSC Severstal, JSC Ammofos and JSC Cherepovetskiy Azot are among the consumers of the electricity from step-down substation No.1. The substation also provides electricity to many domestic consumers in the town of Cherepovets as well as in Cherepovetsky, Beloziorsky, Kirillovsky and Sheksninsky districts of the Vologda Region.
