Governor of Nizhny Novgorod oblast Valery Shantsev assessed the construction of the stadium

On-site meeting at the place of construction of a new “Volga-Arena” stadium was held by Governor of Nizhny Novgorod oblast Valery Shantsev. The general contractor for this construction is PJSC Stroytransgaz. This modern functional arena in Nizhny Novgorod is built for the FIFA World Cup to take place in Russia in 2018. Based on the results of the meeting, it became known that the works are performed two weeks ahead of the schedule.

PJSC STG and the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation signed a governmental contract for construction of the stadium in Nizhny Novgorod in December 2014. The facility is to be commissioned no later than in November 2017. PJSC STG plans to finish the arena in Nizhny Novgorod two months earlier, in September 2017.

Earlier, after a meeting of the executive staff relating to preparation to the World Cup 2018, Minister of Sports of Russia Vitaly Mutko mentioned that Stroytransgaz’s “pace is fine”, the company keeps doing things faster, dynamically working ahead of time.

As Deputy General Director of PJSC STG for construction Vyacheslav Velichko explained, the facility will be delivered in September, which will allow carrying out test competitions at the new object before the frost and prepare to the matches of the World Cup at a higher level.

We have an experienced general contractor, PJSC Stroytransgaz. Many of our Nizhny Novgorod’s organizations are involved as subcontractors. Here, we will meet each other every month to control the deadlines, participate in resolution of all crucial matters”, Valery Shantsev announced at the meeting on May 13.

Project Director of Stroytransgaz PJSC for Stadium Construction in Nizhny Novgorod Anvar Karsakov told that the stadium project was examined in a timely matter and is of high quality. According to him, approx. 30 non-residential premises and structured located in the territory of construction were dismantled along with underground utilities. Then vertical planning was made, temporary roads, sites for warehousing and lighting were arranged, works of main period were commenced, i.e. arrangement of a pile field. By now, these works are fulfilled by third: 3,587 of 9,693 piles are installed. 9 piling rigs with total 40 equipment units operate at the construction site. Soon the number of piling rigs will be increased and the working day will be extended, perhaps, even up to a 24 hours mode.

The In-situ concreting, i.e. construction of a reinforced concrete framing will be started by STG PJSC in June. It will be the most robust structure to bear more than 13 thousand tons of metal structures.

About the stadium:

The matches of eighth-final and quarter-final of the FIFA World Cup will take place at the stadium in Nizhny Novgorod in 2018. Thereafter, the arena will be used as a multi-functional sports complex and for the needs of local football teams.

The arena in Nizhny Novgorod has 45,000 spectator seats. The area of the construction plot is 21.6 ha, total area of the building of the stadium is 127,500 sq.m. The stadium shall be built in the lower part of the city in Strelky district, a plot stretched between the confluence of the Oka and Volga rivers. It is a historical part of the town with a magnificent Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. The architecture of this building will correspond to the surroundings and adjacent territory will be well-arranged, particularly, a pedestrian boulevard across the Strelka will be laid.
