STG PJSC to apply innovations in construction of Mikhnevo-Zhilevo overpass

The construction of an overpass is well under way near the Zhilevo Railroad Station in the Stupinsky district. The General Contractor of the object is Stroytransgaz PJSC in the framework of the Free Crossing project under the Governor's program Nashe Podmoskoviye (Our Moscow Area).

STG PJSC started working on the Mikhnevo-Zhilevo overpass in April 2014. The construction site was swamped, there were two water courses (streams). Draining-out will be performed through several pipe culverts under elevated approaches to the highway. To date, an artificial structure - a metal frame of the overpass on four pillars - has been completed.

Alexander Kuzmenko, the Technical Director on Infrastructure and Special Construction at STG PJSC, told about the next stage of the project. In his words, the Customer proposed to construct elevated approaches to the highway and ramps, applying an experimental method - the use of ash and slag materials. It has been decided to elaborate this technology, developed in the 1970s in the Soviet Union but not widely used, and apply it in the construction of the Mikhnevo-Zhilevo overpass. To conduct comprehensive engineering surveys and tests of ash and slag materials, the construction has been postponed.

During the holidays in May, the company’s technologists received the results of lab tests for ash and slag materials, taken from slag heaps at the Kashirskaya TPP, and confirmed that it would be possible to use them for the construction of elevated approaches. The tests brought together researchers from the MSU, who had simulated the technology back in the Soviet era, to summarize the experience and present it as a well-rounded technology. In the very near future, the project and detailed design documentation will be adjusted and sent the re-examination. “We are doing our best to ensure that the Mikhnevo-Zhilevo overpass can be put into operation as soon as possible,” said Alexander Kuzmenko.

Under the contract, the object is scheduled to be commissioned in the 4th quarter of 2015.

About the overpass:

The cost of services to be provided by STG PJSC under the contract is 1.41 billion rubles. The construction is under way on the 87th km of the road between Mikhnevo and Zhilevo, where the Psarevo-Petrovo highway intersects with the Paveletsky direction of the Moscow Railroad. It is a densely populated area, where about 215,000 people live and work. The only school in the area is located in Zhilevo, the micro-district of Novoye Stupino has been actively developed nearby with the estimated number of residents making about 55,000 people.

In accordance with the plan of the Main Department of Road Facilities of the Moscow Region, there will be a traffic interchange and an overpass with four lanes near the village of Zhilevo. The length of the overpass will be 105.7 m, its maximum height - 14 m. Together with ramps and the main section of the highway, the total length will be almost 4 km.

The existing crossing near the Zhilevo Railroad Station is closed for 6-10 hours a day to allow the passage of trains. Drivers have to wait in long traffic jams. The new road junction will enable unimpeded crossing of the railway and reduce car traffic. Eventually, a checkpoint at the crossing will be removed.
