PJSC STG released more than 155,000 young sterlets in the Oka

PJSC STG has made its contribution to the recovery of the sterlet population, the species listed in the Red Book. As part of fulfilment of environmental obligations under the contract with JSC FGC UES, STG carried out activities for artificial reproduction of biological resources.

Under the supervision of the Federal Agency for Fishery (ROSRYBOLOVSTVO), STG released the first batch of sterlets in the Oka River basin near the city of Kolomna. More than 155,000 young sterlets 2.5 g each were bought for that purpose in the Rybnoye Village of Dmitrovsky District. Sterlets are being bred there in the Research Center for Genetics and Selection of Fish. Young sterlets were transported by specialized vehicles and then released into the river.

Subsequent batches of sterlets in the amount of 12,639 and 81,164 individuals are planned to be released in the Oka River basin (the city of Serpukhov, Moscow Region) and the Ivankovskoye Reservoir (Tver Region), respectively. Thus, the company fulfils its environmental obligations associated with construction of power distribution facilities of energy block No. 4 of Kalinin NPP.

Sterlet belongs to the sturgeon family, it is a valuable commercial fish, a source of delicious meat and black caviar. In the middle of the XX century the sterlet population was seriously reduced, and this species was included in the Red Book of the Russian Federation. Now young sterlets are specially bred and released in rivers to restore its natural population.
