On November 20, an official ceremony devoted to the start of construction of Frunzensky Bridge Crossing was held in Samara. The bridge will be built by PJSC “Stroytransgaz” against the order of the Government of the Samara Region.

The official ceremony was attended by Nikolai Merkushkin, Governor of the Samara Region, Mikhail Babich, Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Volga Federal District, Maxim Sokolov, Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Khryapov, General Director of PJSC “Stroytransgaz”, and other honoured guests. They got acquainted with the project of the bridge crossing, and the major construction project was inaugurated with the symbolic start of the drilling machine with which Frunzensky Bridge pillars will be erected.

“We face a difficult task: we are to build one of the most important transportation facility in Samara in a very short time and ensure high quality. But it is an achievable goal for the company that has 25 years of experience. I am sure that we will cope with the task within the set deadlines,” said Mikhail Khryapov, General Director of PJSC “STG”.

“Frunzensky Bridge opens up a list of strategic projects of the Samara Region, which we plan to implement in the near future, said Nikolai Merkushin, Governor of the Samara Region. In 2018, on the threshold of the World Cup, there will be a six-lane bridge with a roadway breadth over 22 m. Its length will be about 670 m. I would like to wish the bridge builders high-powered and fruitful work followed by successful commissioning. It will be a good World Cup gift for the residents of the regional capital.”

Construction of Frunzensky Bridge is one of the top priorities for Samara. It will eliminate transport problems in the city, as well as reduce traffic flow on the bridge in Glavnaya Street leading to Kuibyshev District. Road approaches to the bridge crossing over the Samara River will attract the existing urban traffic. The bridge will provide access to Federal Highway M-32 (Samara – Aktobe – Shymkent), as well as to the local roads. Frunzensky Bridge is important for the development of the region: South City District is being actively built up on the other side of the Samara River and Novokuybyshevsk and Chapayevsk satellite cities of the regional center will soon undergo additional development. That is why the construction of a modern bridge in this area is necessary for the region.

PJSC “STG” acts as the general contractor for the project and the company will fullfil it on a turnkey basis: it will develop the detailed design documentation, ensure the supply of materials and equipment, perform construction, installation and commissioning works. The bridge roadway breadth will be 22 meters and it will include three lanes in each direction. Preparatory works have been carried out by PJSC “Stroytransgaz” since the beginning of October. Large-scale construction will be completed by December 01, 2018.

Within the stage of the company’s preparatory works that began this October “Stroytransgaz” will perform earthworks, free up and prepare sections of the route for construction, carry out a large volume of works on reconstruction of utility lines: the company will lay three low, medium and high pressure pipelines with a total length of about 900 m, rebuild water supply and sewerage system, telecommunications and heating networks in Kuibyshev Street, Stepana Razina Street and Krupskaya Street.

The length of the new highway to be built by “Stroytransgaz” under the project will make 2.67 km. The bridge crossing will include a set of facilities: a transport junction in Frunze Street, a steel-reinforced concrete bridge across the Samara River (666.63 m), reinforced-concrete bridge over bog Lake Bannoye (79.58 m). A crossover will be built at the connecting track over the main highway (70.71 meters).

“The unique character of this project lies in the application of the Russian materials in accordance with the Import Substitution Programme. These materials meet the highest world standards,” said Alexander Popov, a representative of PJSC “STG” for construction of Frunzensky Bridge. “This applies to anti-corrosion coatings and geosynthetics, as well as components for preparation of asphalt mixes, etc. In total, for the facility we will use 46,000 cubic meters of reinforced concrete; 9,500 tons of metal structures; 1,140,000 cubic meters of soil and 101,000 square meters of asphalt concrete pavement. In addition, we will ensure underbridge clearance for the passage of river vessels with a width of 200 meters and a height of 12 meters.”
