On January 18, 2016, Valery Shantsev, the Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, held another visiting meeting at the construction site of the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium being built for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

According to Valery Nelyubov, the Civil Construction Director of PJSC Stroytransgaz, the site works completed so far have been accepted by the controlling authorities, and the whole detailed design documentation is being prepared in compliance with the schedule.

When commenting on the involvement of Nizhny Novgorod companies in the construction of the stadium, Valery Nelyubov mentioned that currently four out of six contractors at the site are from Nizhny Novgorod. “Now we are starting a new scope of work – in-site utility networks (water and heat supply, sewage etc.). Another Nizhny Novgorod company starts working next week. The objective of Stroytransgaz is to involve Russian manufacturers of materials and contractors, including those from Nizhny Novgorod,” Valery Nelyubov concluded.

Following the results of the meeting, the head of the region reported that since the last visit to the stadium – three weeks ago – the situation has significantly improved. “New scopes of work are emerging, the number of workers has increased by 150 people; one thousand people are currently involved in site works. The installation of floor slabs of the first floor has begun; the completion date according to the schedule is the end of April 2016, however, we agreed to have it finished one month earlier. The same situation is with the ground floor: the builders had to complete works at the end of February, the new date is January 31, i.e. one month earlier. Moreover, the installation of entrance elements of the stadium has started five months ahead of schedule,” Valery Shantsev said.

“Early this year, we received the adjusted stadium project approved by the State Examination Body (Glavgosekspertiza). The stadium’s estimated cost decreased, the price was reduced owing to the replacement of import materials with Russian substitutes that are as good as western products in terms of quality. This refers to facade systems, indoor lighting, power supply, ventilation, heating and air-conditioning systems, grandstand equipment – all this will be done by Russian suppliers,” the head of the region said.

Furthermore, according to the Governor, they chose the company that will supply lawn turf to the stadium; in summer 2016, specialists will have a test planting of the lawn turf.
