Construction of transport junction launched in Krasnogorsk

On March 30, 2016 the Governor of the Moscow Region Andrey Vorobiev launched construction of transport junction at the intersection of Volokolamskoye road and Ilyinskoye road in Krasnogorsky district of Moscow Region

“Volokolamskoe and Ilyinskoe are two very busy roads especially in summer time. The intersection of two roads actually block the traffic to Moscow and back. Today the construction of the first stage of the ramp was started. Builders signed the contract - they undertake to build this very important engineering structure within two years. This project is financed from regional budget”, Andrey Vorobiev said.

The two-level interchange will comprise the base line crossover above Riga direction railway section, crossover at the interchange ramp of Volokolamskoe and Ilyinskoe highways, bridge over Ban’ka river, reversal overpass at Volokolamskoe highway and three pedestrian crossings. The project will include three stages. The first startup complex includes construction of the right-side direction of the crossover of the main direction of Volokolamskoe highway across rail tracks. The traffic will be launched here using temporary scheme on two lanes in each direction which already at the initial stage of this work will eliminate traffic jams at the intersection of Volokolamskoe and Ilyinskoe highways.

As part of the project the utilities will be re-arranged, the sections of the adjacent roads will be reconstructed and ramps linking them will be constructed. To ensure safe and easy movement of residents of adjacent districts the pedestrian undercrossings and overground crossings will be constructed. The Head of Main Road Facility Division of Moscow Region Konstantin Lyashkevich said: “We believed that the task of construction of this facility is linking the developed area and microdistricts which are under construction right now to ensure exit from the region for main transit flow through Krasnogorsk and for all current and future residents of Krasnogorsk”. 

The length of three startup complexes will reach about 9 km, the number of traffic lanes will increase from four to six, from the direction of Volokolamskoe highway, four lanes will be arranged from Ilyinskoe highway and two more lanes from Penyaginskoe highway. Total traffic capacity of the new facility will exceed 160,000 cars daily.

The commissioning of the transport junction will allow to eliminate traffic difficulties in Krasnogorsk district associated with the heavy transit traffic and railway crossing. Together with the above, free access will be provided to Kommunalny microdistrict where town ambulance station is located. New transport facility will link two parts of Krasnogorsk and will become an important step for improvement of the traffic situation in Moscow Region.
