State customer Federal State Unitary Enterprise Sport-Engineering has approved a new work schedule for construction of Nizhny Novgorod stadium for FIFA 2018 World Cup. Construction of the stadium is carried out by the general contractor, PJSC Stroytransgaz (STG Group), without delay and in accordance with the contract is to be finished in December 2017.

Previous schedule was approved by the customer in May 2015. According to the recently updated work schedule STG will install roofing metal structures 3 months ahead of schedule, from May to December 2016. Schedule reduction becomes possible due to optimisation of the installation technology suggested by workers and approved by designers and the state customer. Delivery of metal structures to the construction site will start in April.

Moreover, the new schedule also reflects terms necessary for performance of works being the responsibility of the state customer including issue of permits, specifications for utility connections, completion of bank protection, etc. and describes in detail stages of in-situ concreting.

At present construction of Nizhny Novgorod stadium is performed at a quick rate. The first floor is about 42% completed, erection works here are to be finished by the end of April. In February concreting of the first layer grandstand structures began and will last till mid April. In total, for the stadium over 46,000 cubic meters of concrete have been already laid.

As Alexey Anikin, the stadium construction manager, explained earlier, the scope of work is expanding every month. “Currently, 1,050 workers are engaged in the construction works. We are busy with arrangement of in-site utility networks. The task is to lay all utilities round the stadium during summer. By the way, concrete, fittings, metal are of high quality and produced domestically,” Alexey Anikin told.

Nizhny Novgorod will host 6 matches of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, including quarter-final. According to the independent poll held in December 2014 - January 2015, 83% of Nizhny Novgorod residents support the tournament in Nizhny Novgorod – it is the highest indicator among all the 11 host cities.
