State customer Federal State Unitary Enterprise Sport-Engineering has approved a new work schedule for construction of Volgograd Arena stadium for FIFA 2018 World Cup. In accordance with the updated schedule construction of the stadium by the general contractor, PJSC Stroytransgaz, without delay and will be completed on time, in November 2017.

Previous schedule was approved by the customer in 2014. Its adjustment was required primarily due to additional work under the project. Construction Director Sergey Kamin provided an example: “At the foundation preparation stage an unforeseen problem occurred - in sectors A, C and D substantial layers of man-made soils were revealed, we had to replace them to continue construction.” The workers have resolved the problem by carrying out additional site exploration activities, performing a large amount of work, namely replacement and multilayer consolidation of more than 40,000 cub m of soil instead of 1,071 cub m as stipulated initially by the project. Accordingly, the volume of work has increased almost 40 times.

New schedule also reflects terms necessary for performance of works being the responsibility of the state customer including issue of permits, specifications for utility connections, completion of bank protection, etc.

In the meanwhile, Volgograd Arena is growing right in front of your eyes: concreting of reinforced concrete structures is being carried out, construction of the first floor is being proceeded at a fast pace. Monolithic structures of the stadium are about 70% accomplished and will be completed in this July. About 115,000 cub m of concrete will be used for construction of foundation and bearing structures.

According to the new schedule, in March one of the most complicated and important work stages will start, that is installation of basic metal structures (facade, roofing, etc.), which is to be completed by the end of this year. The stadium roofing will be ready in April 2017. Simultaneously with installation of metal structures Stroytransgaz will commence finishing works. Football field foundation and heated covering are to be finished by the end of September 2017.

At present foundation of the bypass pedestrian overpass which will be routed around the “bowl” of the stadium is finished. Installation of water supply and sewage systems under the overpass is completed.

Construction works at Volgograd Arena are carried out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week involving 1,100 workers and over 90 pieces of equipment.
