Construction of the third floor of Volgograd Arena stadium has been commenced

PJSC Stroytransgaz (STG Group) acting as the general contractor for construction of the Volgograd Arena stadium being built for the FIFA World Cup 2018 has commenced the construction of the third floor of the stadium.

In sectors A, B, and D workers started concreting of vertical structures of the third floor at an elevation over 16.8 m. Simultaneously with this process the erection of the second floor is being continued and construction of the first floor is being completed including both external walls and internals, i.e. elevator shafts, internal stairs, etc.

Pyramid columns along the perimeter of the stadium are completely ready being the supports for the future facade coverage of the stadium, the so-called “crown”. In February concreting of the grandstand structures began and will last till July.

Concreting of the reinforced concrete structures of the stadium is about 73% complete and will be finished in this July.

In March one of the most complicated and important work stages, that is installation of basic metal structures, will commence. Installation of the bearing structures of facades, roofing, etc. will be completed by the end of this year. At present all necessary installation elements are being delivered to the site.

Next week STG will commence finishing works starting from the filling of the first floor. This process will require delivery, grading and compaction of 44,000 cub m of sand. Such preparation for the final covering is necessary for further installation of utility systems including the floor heating system.

At present foundation of the bypass pedestrian overpass which will be routed around the “bowl” of the stadium is finished. Construction of foundation of stairs which the fans will climb up to reach the overpass is in progress. Installation of water supply and sewage systems under the overpass is completed.

Construction works at Volgograd Arena are carried out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week involving 1,150 workers and over 80 pieces of equipment.
