Inspectorate of FIFA and Russia-2018 Organising Committee highly praised the construction of “Volgograd Arena” Stadium

On April 7, the joint delegation of representatives from FIFA and Russia-2018 Organising Committee has visited the “Volgograd Arena” Stadium under construction as part of the third operational visit with regard to preparation of stadiums for 2018 FIFA World Cup. The delegate members inspected the progress of stadium construction, making a perimeter round and ascending to the second floor of the future arena. The day before April 6, the inspectorate has expressed a high opinion of the progress of Nizhny Novgorod Stadium construction.

CEO of Russia-2018 Organising Committee Alexey Sorokin has emphasized that Volgograd is a very important city for the 2018 World Cup, it will host four matches of the world’s football championship. “We see the dynamic development of the stadium construction, we maintain good working contact with the region heads and with the governor in person, we know that he is quite aware of all the challenges arising in Championship preparation”, – says Alexey Sorokin.

“We are on the main stadium of our hero city, Volgograd. The works are being carried out strictly according to the schedule, – emphasizes Volgograd Region Governor Andrey Bocharov. - For all Volgograd citizens it is not simply a stadium, but a truly historic place, loved by the residents of our city and the region. Here our grandfathers and great-grandfathers fought to the bitter end, protecting our land… The stadium will be justifiably owned by our “Rotor” club, being its basic site. But the most important thing is that on the way to success we have to prepare the rising generation, children, who will play on this stadium, in our team and will win”.

Head of FIFA World Cup Office Chris Unger is sure that Volgograd will cope with preparation of the word cup. “We see that close attention here is paid not only to the stadium but also to the development of infrastructure, that will be needed during the Championship. Two years are remaining, the work is going on actively, there is no doubt that Volgograd and other regions of Russia will be fully ready for the Championship. We have quite positive impressions, Volgograd is a city of grand history, including that of football”, – says Chris Unger.

To date, STG has commenced construction of the fourth floor in sector A and installation of stadium metallic structures ahead of schedule. The arena’s reinforced concrete structures are already 80% ready and will be completed in July 2016. By the end of the year, works in erection of the facade and the main elements of the guy-stayed roofing will be finished.

At present works for erection of the first-tier tribunes, arrangement of the pedestrian overpass and stairway bases are on-going. Laying of external water supply and sewerage networks under the pedestrian overpass has been completed, arrangement of onsite networks at the other sections is 50% ready.
