PJSC Stroytransgaz (STG Group) acting as the general contractor for construction of the Volgograd Arena stadium being built for the FIFA World Cup 2018 has completed the construction of the stadium’s main building consisting of five floors in A sector and three floors in the remaining sectors.

In-situ concreting works on the stadium construction site entered the final stage: more than 100,000 cubic meters of concrete out of 112,000 are laid. Bearing structures of the stadium including columns, floorings and walls are installed. Therefore, construction of all floors is completed.

In-situ concreting works are to be completed in July this year, by that time internal and external stairs are expected to be ready as well as the stands for the fans. The Volgograd Arena Stadium will have two stand tiers: the lower (20 rows) and the upper (44 rows). In all sectors construction of the upper tier stands has begun, in-situ concreting of the lower tier is being completed.

The workers started to arrange 50 external stairways along the external perimeter of the building, directly behind the facade crown. Installation of the main metal structures is under progress. Along the stadium perimeter 44 metal columns are being installed, each of them consisting of two parts (tiers). At present 12 columns of the first tier are erected (at the 30 m level), in B sector installation of the second tier of the columns has begun (at the 41 m level).

The so-called compression ring will rest upon these columns. This is a complicated metal structure which will unite the bearing columns at height exceeding 40 meters. This ring is the main bearing element of the steel cable roof. Simultaneously the assemblers started the pre-assembly and installation of temporary auxiliary structures which will hold decorative elements of the facade in-situ until full assembly.

Together with the above, installation of internal sewerage and water fire extinguishing systems was commenced.
