Russia’s Leading Architects Highly Praise Volgograd Arena’s Construction Quality

PJSC Stroytransgaz (STG Group) being the general contractor for the construction of the Volgograd Arena Stadium for the FIFA 2018 World Cup, has hosted a meeting of the 6th City-Planning Architectural Conference “Arkhitekturny Most. Volgograd – Moscow. “Complex Formation of City’s Objective-Spatial Environment”.

During the visit to the stadium, Russia’s leading architects and town-planners visited the construction site, reviewed the completed structures of the stadium and those under construction, shared their professional opinion on the stadium design developed under the guidance of Dmitri Bush, Chief Architect of PI “Arena”, and saw how the project was embodied in a 0.003 scale model of the stadium located at Volgograd Arena’s HQ.

‘As any large scale construction project the Volgograd Arena is very impressive with its scales,’ Victoria Semenova, Vice President of the Association of Designers of Russia said: ‘Moreover, the construction site is well-arranged and very clean, which is remarkable! I’ve been positively impressed by this city and its citizens, a lot of very interesting and talented people live here. I’d like to thank the Volgograd Union of Architects for an enjoyable agenda of the conference and an opportunity to visit the stadium construction site.’

Edwin Petrov, the Chairman of the Volgograd Union of Architects, admitted a high quality of concrete and an ideal geometry of monolithic structures: ‘The monolithic structures that we saw at the stadium impressed with their quality: there were no cracks, cavities, the so-called “seashells” in concrete; no doubt the technology was observed thoroughly, the works have been of very high quality.’

The architects also admitted interesting and sophisticated structures of the stadium to be erected at the Volgograd Arena over the next one and a half year such as the cable-stayed roof compression ring, unique facades in the form of raised crossing rhombuses resembling five-pointed stars associated with the salute of the Victory.
