The monitoring of conditions for workers performing construction works was performed to comply with the requirements of the FIFA and the Russia-2018 Organising Committee within the framework of implementation of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ strategy in terms of sustainable development at the Volgograd Arena stadium.

The main goal of the commission visit was a comprehensive assessment of the situation and support in providing appropriate and safe conditions and protection of workers building and reconstructing stadiums for the World Cup.

Methods and a plan of monitoring were developed in accordance with international conventions ratified by the Russian Federation, as well as with FIFA requirements.

During the visit, conferences involving the management of the FSUE Sport-In, JSC Stroytransgaz, and subcontracting organisations were held. During two business days the commission performed monitoring in different zones of the stadium construction site. Besides, the commission asked workers about conditions of work, living, nutrition, and payment and also examined observance of workers’ rights stipulated by the labour law. During the monitoring the documents of general contractor and subcontractors were carefully examined, and also a workshop on issues associated with the appropriate working conditions and recommendations for elimination and preventive measures associated with potential non-compliances in terms of working conditions was performed.

Similar visits are planned to be performed on a quarterly basis.
