On 25 July, a visiting meeting was held by Valery Shantsev, the Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, at the construction site of the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium. At this stage, builders commenced the assembly of major structures the stadium roof will be assembled of.

“We plan to complete the construction of all floors in August, and the top tier of the arena in all stadium sectors is being currently built. When someone tells me that half the work has already been done, it is important to note that the most difficult work is yet to begin now: installation of the roof, utility lines, as well as all systems which are critical for the arena operation. These activities will involve about a hundred different subcontractors. Also, we are launching the finishing works that usually represent one of the most time consuming activities. Naturally, special attention will be paid to the football field. The European championship in France showed that a field without aeration is unacceptable. FIFA requires the implementation of aeration, usage of synthetic fibers only, so we will construct the field as per the most recent requirements. Generally, we will continue to keep an eye on and monitor the construction progress, because the stadium is the most important object of the program of preparation for the World Cup,” said Mr. Shantsev to the press.

According to Sergey Bulavsky, the chief expert on steel structures of PJSC STG, preparations for the installation of the stadium cover with the roof to be mounted on it are being currently finalised: “Builders have installed almost all auxiliary supports and commenced the assembly of major structures the roof of the stadium will be assembled from. A huge crane allowing for the assembly of the roof structures with consolidated blocks is being operated on site. Its maximum load capacity is 750 tonnes. There are only a few similar cranes available in the country. We have to assemble over 10,000 tonnes of basic steel structures, which is one of the most important stages of the stadium construction. We plan to complete this work by the end of 2016, and then a cover will be installed on the stadium roof,” said Sergey Bulavsky.

Nizhny Novgorod will host 6 matches of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia™, including quarter-final.
