It has now been over 250 days since the construction of the Frunzensky Bridge started in Samara. PJSC Stroytransgaz is the General Contractor to the Project. A large-scale construction is underway both on the right and the left banks of the Samara River. Three of the eight bridge piers are entirely complete, whilst the rest are being constructed. Construction of the superstructure has started on the Bannoye Lake Bridge. As well, still in progress are the construction of two interchanges on Frunze St and Shosseynaya St and the filling of an embankment for the main section of the motorway on the left bank of the Samara River. The construction work is carried out 24 hours a day, in two shifts.

Left Bank
Bannoye Lake Bridge

All of the seven piers of the Bannoye Lake Bridge have been erected, with the five of them located within the water area. Their construction required 1,827 mᶾ of concrete.

The builders are erecting special-purpose auxiliary structures and facilities. These structures and facilities will react the entire load to be exerted from the bridge superstructure. They will be dismantled as soon as the concrete has attained the required strength.

1.5 thousand tonnes of metal are required to construct the special-purpose auxiliary structures and facilities.

The builders have started to construct the bridge superstructure that needs 1,600 mᶾ of concrete.

Samara River Bridge

On the left bank, two bridge piers (piers 7 and 8) are entirely complete.

Bored cast-in-situ piles are being installed in the zone of pier 6 which is placed in the riverbed. The piles are bored to a depth of 16 m.

A sheet-pile wall has now been completed at pier 5 to prevent the thus enclosed area from being flooded. At pier 4, operations are envisaged to lift and dispose of the barge.

Interchange at Shosseynaya St

Filling of working platforms at six ramps (C3 through C8) and installation of drains at ramp C-7 are underway in the area of the envisaged interchange at Shosseynaya St. There will be eight ramps in total.

Motorway Main Section

On the left bank, the builders are constructing the body of an embankment for the main section of the future motorway.

The embankment sand is deposited using the hydraulic fill method: a powerful hydraulic pump feeds the sand on to the site through a special pipeline.

Installation of test piles is in progress in the area of the Shosseynaya St.

Right Bank
Samara River Bridge

The right bank will host three bridge piers. All of them are in different states of readiness.

At pier 1, bored cast-in-situ piles are being installed and sheet piling is being constructed to enclose the pit of the pier.

Pier 2 has been entirely constructed. Formwork is being dismantled, with the concrete gaining the required strength.

Construction of a service bridge through which large-size machinery have been accessing the site is now complete in the area of pier 3.

Interchange at Frunze St

On the right bank of the Samara River, the builders are working to complete the ninth ramp of the interchange at Frunze St. It will pass along the river bank and lead to Molodogvardeyskaya St and Krupskoy St. The interchange at Frunze St will total 10 ramps.

The Frunzensky Bridge is being constructed on a 24/7 basis. Approx. 200 construction specialists work at the site in shifts, along with 70 machinery units.

At nighttime, up to 100 people are working at the site. The construction site is illuminated by light towers and floodlights.

Background

The contract for the construction of the Frunzensky Bridge was signed in October 2015. On 20 November, an official ceremony took place to celebrate the start of the construction of the Frunzensky Bridge Crossing. The ceremony was attended by Nikolai Merkushkin, Governor of the Samara Region, Mikhail Babich, Plenipotentiary Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Volga Federal District, Maxim Sokolov, Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation, and Mikhail Khryapov, General Director of PJSC Stroytransgaz. The Frunzensky Bridge Crossing Project includes the construction of a six-lane composite-girder bridge across the Samara River (667 m long, with a 22m wide carriageway), a reinforced concrete bridge (79.6 m long) across the boggy Bannoye Lake, and two interchanges at Shosseynaya and Frunze streets. The new motorway will be 2.67 km long.
