Three districts of the Republic of Buryatia are connected to 220kV Goryachinskaya Substation. The facility was built by PJSC Stroytransgaz. Project originator is PJSC “Federal Grid Company of Unified Energy System (PJSC FGC UES).

The ceremonial start of the power facility, which took place on 18 November 2016, was attended by: Head of the Republic of Buryatia Vyacheslav Nagovitsyn, First Deputy General Director-Chief Engineer of the branch of FGC UES – MES Siberia – Terskov Alexander, Director of the Branch of FGC UES – Zabaikalskoe PMES – Maxim Militsyn, Project Activities Director for Energy Construction in the Region of Siberia of PJSC STG Sergei Mariinsky.

Two 110kV transmission lines were connected to the substation, which feed Pribaikalskiy, Barguzinsky and Kurumkansky Districts of the Republic of Buryatia. For this purpose, two cells were installed at 110kV switch yard (SY) to connect overhangs which were created by cutting 110kV transmission line Turka - Ust-Barguzin. Maximum connection capacity will account for 26.64MW.

According to V. Nagovitsyn, Goryachinskaya Substation is the largest facility in the region among those built in the last 10 years.  He also added that it is not built for decades but will serve the people for centuries.

“Commissioning of this facility will fix a big power supply problem,” said S. Mariinsky. It is particularly important that the substation is equipped with special equipment that does not affect the ecosystem of Lake Baikal given that Goryachinskaya Substation is only less than 1 kilometer from the lake.

Goryachinskaya is a new generation substation which was designed with due regard to high seismic activity in the region. The installed capacity of the facility is 250MVA. During the construction of 110kV and 220kV switch yards, innovative compact modular cells were used for the first time in Russia, each of which consists of a SF 6 circuit-breaker with two disconnectors and two earthing switches. The use of these cells minimizes the need for maintenance.

The new main substation was built as part of construction of the new 220kV energy transit starting from 220 kV Tataurovo Substation under the Federal Program on Socio-Economic Development of the Russian Far East and Trans-Baikal. It will supply electricity to the northern regions of Buryatia, including a tourist and recreation zone “Baikal Harbour” which is under construction.

So far, the power for Pribaykalsky, Barguzinsky, Kurumkansky Districts of the Republic was supplied through a single-circuit 110 kV transmission line stretching over 300km. The only reserve power sources were diesel power stations which cover the needs of consumers only partially.
