Construction of 88 three-edged columns at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium has been completed

A visiting meeting was held by Valery Shantsev, the Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, at the construction site of the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium. The builders have reported on completion of construction of 88 three-edged columns of the stadium that encircle the arena and, along with the facade and the roof, shape the appearance thereof, designed in a classic style.

“These columns will help to create a unique and memorable appearance of the arena: none of the Russian stadiums has something like this - round columns have been commonly used. I`m sure the residents will be proud of their stadium. After the World Cup, when the citizens will come here for competitions, concerts, city festivals or will bring their children to the sports classes, each of them will enjoy visiting such beautiful and fabulous building”, Valery Shantsev said.

According to Sergey Pichushkin, the head of JSC Stroytransgaz` stadium construction project, despite the higher technological complexity of installing such columns, the builders have completed all works on time: “The architects` idea is that the three-edged columns not only give the stadium a classic shape which, from a distance, resembles an ancient Greek temple, but also perform a practical task - partly support the stadium`s roof structures. That`s why the columns were erected using concrete of the highest quality”.

As it became known during the meeting, works for assembling and mounting the roof steelwork at the stadium are continued, and a translucent polycarbonate roof coating will be installed in 2017. “More than a quarter of the roof has been assembled - approximately 3,000 tons of steel structures have been mounted. The builders will soon proceed to the next stage - the roof elements above the pedestrian overpass will be mounted with the help of two cranes of 400 and 350 tons capacity”, Sergey Pichushkin noted.

In addition, almost all 18 entrance elements through which spectators will access the stadium locations have been constructed. In November, the builders will start the interior finishing of that premises.

On-site and off-site utilities (water supply, sewage, power supply, lighting, heating, ventilation, telecom systems) are being installed simultaneously. Installation of main heating lines has commenced.

Nizhny Novgorod will host 6 matches of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia™, including the quarter-final.
