STG started a final stage of assembling the roof frame at Nizhny Novgorod Stadium

JSC Stroytransgaz has proceeded to the final stage of installation of the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium roof frame at the top level. The day before, the first metal structure element weighing about 50 tons out of the total 44 units was installed over the arena’s top tier, where the lobby zone is located, with a 400 ton crane. The work progress report was provided during the 19th visiting meeting at the stadium carried out under the supervision of the Region Governor Valery Shantsev.

“Until recently there was just a foundation ditch, and today the stadium outlines are fully visible. Speaking of the current status, the builders are progressing on schedule, the roof installation over the lobby has been started”, noted Valery Shantsev. “By the beginning of May we are inviting the firm selected for the football field arrangement. It will be heated and feature all present day root aeration systems even the European Championship didn’t have. The pitch grass is the stadium’s core; there is no good playing on a poor quality field”.

The first stage of the roof metal structures installation began in August 2016, when the builders set about construction of the “compression ring” over the stands comprising 16 enlarged blocks of about 220 tons each. At the moment 14 blocks have been installed into the final position and are supported at the height of over 40 meters by auxiliary structures. Alongside with that the builders assemble and install cantilever trusses connecting the “compression ring” with round support columns of 1.4 m in diameter.  Over 4600 tons of the roof metal structures, making it actually a half of the total frame weight, have been already installed. In 2017 the translucent polycarbonate roofing will be mounted upon the ready frame.

At the same time they install the utility networks around the stadium building which will provide for water and heat supply of the new arena as well as for wastewater disposal. Currently 7.8 km out of the total 10.8 km of storm water drainage, waste sewerage and water pipeline around the stadium have been laid.

The stadium construction progress follows the schedule. Over 1000 workers are engaged at the construction site.
