Vitaly Mutko visited Volgograd Arena

On December 16, as part of an inspection tour to Volgograd, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Vitaly Mutko visited the main 2018 World Cup construction facility of the city – Volgograd Arena stadium. According to him, the construction of the stadium is progressing well.

Mutko assessed the readiness of the stadium for World Cup matches directly from the “bowl” of the stadium. The Governor of the region Andrey Bocharov, representatives of the developer FSUE “Sport-In” and the General Contractor JSC STG informed Deputy Prime Minister about the progress of construction. According to General Director of JSC STG Mikhail Khryapov, installation of the stadium’s facade is nearing completion, and then the builders will proceed to an important phase – assembly of the unique cable-stayed roof which will be the largest one in Russia. All works at the stadium are subject to four-stage quality control. Representatives of special scientific institute will control installation and lifting of the cable-stayed roof.

Vitaly Mutko was pleased with the visit to the construction site and said, “In general, the construction of the stadium is going quite well and we do not need to slow down the pace.”

Deputy Prime Minister supported a blue and white scheme for Volgograd Arena as this scheme corresponds to the colors of FC Rotor-Volgograd. After the 2018 World Cup, the stadium will become a home arena for the team of Volgograd.

Currently, the stadium is being prepared for installation of the cable-stayed roof, components of pedestrian overpass and auxiliary buildings (ticket offices and pavilions, security checkpoints) are being constructed. Grading and levelling are being performed, installation of inner utility systems is gaining momentum and finishing works are being carried out.
