JSC Stroytransgaz is working to strengthen the bank side of the Volga near Volgograd Arena which is under construction. On this site the STG builders need to create a stable artificial slope which will include 2 entry elements of the stadium, 2 terraces and stairs for arena’s guests.

The issue, which relates to the strengthening of the right bank of the river in the Central District of Volgograd, was previously raised by the Governor of the region Andrey Bocharov in view of the necessity to develop urban infrastructure in the coastal areas. At the bottom, the slope will be connected with lateral motorway and nearby, along the coastline, promenade and city beach will be built.

STG specialists need to replace clay soil with a large amount of sand to form a stable artificial structure – this will eliminate the risk of slope failure. The volume of sand required to replace clay soil, including the subsequent formation of the slope in accordance with design elevations, will exceed 190 thous. m³. Recently, the builders poured the first 10 thous. m3 of sand. “To ensure a high quality of work, each subsequent layer of sand will be deposed only after receiving a positive laboratory opinion on the density of the previous layer”, said Construction Manager Sergey Kamin.

Water supply and disposal systems of Volgograd Arena will be installed on the territory of the slope.  In the summer of 2015, STG completed the 1st stage of slope strengthening: trunk main was brought outside the construction footprint of the stadium and moved to a safe distance toward the Volga bank. At the same time, the worn pipes of the trunk main were replaced with new ones which greatly contributed to the guaranteed water supply for city residents.

The slope, which will be covered with the lawn, will be finally shaped in the first half of 2017.

Other activities are carried out on the construction site in parallel, and some of them are performed ahead of schedule. Installation of steel structures and assembly of inner compression ring are carried out in accordance with the terms specified. Inner compression ring is a supporting structure which ensure the connection of cable-stayed roof system with facade structures.  The “crown” of the stadium, which is mounted with the use of multipath white sections, will soon be ready. Builders are going to start installation of floor trusses until the end of 2017. Installation of the largest cable-stayed roof in Russia is under preparation. Pedestrian overpass components and ancillary buildings (booking halls, checkpoints) are constructed ahead of schedule. Grading and levelling are carried out around the clock, internal engineering systems are installed at a quickened pace, finishing works are under way.
