Stroytransgaz has started to install floor-to-ceiling glass panels at the Volgograd Arena stadium, which is being built to host the 2018 FIFA World CupTM. The floor-to-ceiling glass panels on the stadium building and entrance lobbies will cover 11,300 sq.m, outperforming in this respect the largest local business centre “Volgograd-City”.

Floor-to-ceiling glass panels will be fabricated using tempered safety glass, which has multi-functional properties. Its width varies from 6 to 12mm depending on a mounting location, overall dimensions of each floor-to-ceiling glass panel and wind load it will be exposed to. “A multifunctional ExtraClear low-iron glass will be installed to ensure optimised transparency to light transmittance ratio. It reflects the solar energy during the summer and saves the heat generated by the building’s heating systems in winter,” said Sergey Kamin, Construction Director.

Concurrently, cladding works are being carried out on the external perimeter of cast-in-situ structures of the stadium and entrance lobbies –additional thermal insulation is being fitted to the walls and ventilated facade of composite cassettes is being installed with a total area of 8,000 sq.m. Floor-to-ceiling glass panels, coupled with the ventilated facade, will create the thermal envelope around Volgograd Arena and entrance lobbies. The structures are being fabricated and mounted by Reiter, a Volgograd-based company.

Currently, the installation of hydraulic equipment, which will be used to lift the stadium’s cable-stayed roof, is nearing completion at Volgograd Arena, as is the installation of pre-assembled blocks of trusses, which connect the facade and the compression ring creating the stadium’s cover above its lobby area.  Construction of the by-pass pedestrian bridge, interior finishing inside the stadium, installation of utility networks, grading, and levelling are underway.
