Base preparation complete for the football pitch at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium

The construction of the football pitch is in full swing at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium, with the base already complete. Installation is underway of aeration, drainage and irrigation systems, these are the services, which together with the heating system ensure functioning of the pitch. The natural turf is scheduled to be seeded in July 2017. This is what STG reported to Valery Shantsev, Governor of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, during the on-site meeting at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium.

“The football pitch is the heart of the stadium and of all our campaign for the Cup as well. The campaign is extensive and includes the construction and renovation of nearly 50 facilities across the region, but viewers will judge on how well we’re prepared for the championship by the condition of the stadium’s turf. In July, the grass will be seeded, in August it should sprout, and in autumn the construction of the pitch is expected to be finally complete. FIFA poses very tough requirements to the quality of the turf, therefore, we have brought in specialists from Europe. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that the creation of the football pitch at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium is an international project,” said Mr. Shantsev.

“The turf will be natural grass. The materials that will make up layers of the pitch base (crushed stone, peat, sand, fertilizers) will be additionally tested at a specialized laboratory in Scotland. The root system will be additionally reinforced with polymer fibres to increase the turf’s durability more than three times and reduce the risk of injuries for players, said Sergey Pichushkin, Construction Manager. - If you look at the stadium, its specifications, materials used, you will find that it is indeed a world class stadium featuring state-of-the-art utilities, security and stadium servicing systems.”
