Installation of pitch equipment starts at Volgograd Arena

Stroytransgaz has started to install basic equipment of football pitch services at Volgograd Arena. This is the first phase of construction of the playing ground measuring 10,963 sq.m in area.

The quality of the pitch and its turf will meet FIFA requirements to the top level matches. The Civil General Contractor is progressing with the pitch construction in accordance with the contract schedule. STG is to provide a set of civil and turf installation activities to prepare the pitch for games considering the climatic conditions of the area. The pitch is scheduled to be seeded with grass in early September, which is the best time according to surveys performed.

Installation of the pitch base and surface is to be complete by the end of September 2017. From this autumn till next spring Stroytransgaz will be carrying out a set of pitch servicing activities, including monitoring of growing and condition of grass. The heating system will guard the pitch against frost, subsoil aeration will quickly remove excess of moisture and fill the soil with air.

Currently, in spaces located under the stadium grandstands a pump station for the irrigation system and a local heating plant for the pitch heating system are being installed. To prepare the aeration system for the playing ground, piping of air lines and separator box will be installed,

In July 2017 installation of the pitch base and surface itself will start. At this stage, the pitch base will be graded and will be made up—like a pie—of layers of crushed stone, peat, fertilizers, and other materials. STG will install services, which will maintain the ground operational. The football pitch will be fitted with drainage, aeration, watering, and heating systems. According to FIFA requirements, the pitch surface will be natural grass. To enhance the turf durability, it will be additionally reinforced with polymer fibres. Around the perimeter of the football pitch—in the technical zone—artificial turf will be installed.
