Installation of roofing system started at Volgograd Arena

STG has started to install the roofing system at the Volgograd Arena stadium. The stadium roof with a total area of 77,000 sq.m will be made from two types of materials. A high-tech 9-layer membrane made in Germany will be erected over the grandstands and lobby. The material is very strong, weather-resistant, and has a self-cleaning feature thanks to an adhesive surface: it repels dust and water, the rain runs down in drops while cleaning the roof surface at the same time. The translucent membrane of white and aquamarine color diffuses the sunlight, trapping the UF rays while reducing the overall illumination very little. Such roof can serve for decades. The membrane will be attached to a supporting metal structure made of arched purlins, which will ensure the required slope of the roof and create gutters to divert rainwater and melting snow to intake chutes. They will be provided with trace heating to prevent ice formation and to promote snow melting.

To create an overhang over the pitch edge, EFTE polymer will be used, which is also a very strong, weather-resistant, light-transmitting and self-cleaning material. The football pitch at the Volgograd Arena will remain uncovered.

Meanwhile, the erection of in-situ structures of entrance lobbies has been completed. The construction of the encircling walking gallery is nearing completion with concreting finished for sectors A, B, and C, and sector D being in progress. The work has been started to apply a polymer coating to the grandstands, to install guardrails at the top tiers of the grandstands. Installation of utility systems and equipment, finishing and fitting of floor-to-ceiling glazing at the stadium and entrance lobbies are in progress, as well as landscaping.

Over 2,300 workers are involved in the construction. The works are being carried out 24 hours a day.
