The Volgograd Arena’s Pedestrian Overpass is Ready

The pedestrian overpass has been erected at Volgograd Arena – JSC STG has completed the construction of the last of the eight stairs of the reinforced concrete structure. During the construction of the overpass, including its superstructure and substructure (foundation), almost 10 000 m3 of concrete have been laid. This amount of concrete is nearly the same as for the construction of the arena’s grandstands capable of arranging 45,000 fans next year.

The 11 m wide overpass encircles the first floor of the stadium. On the ground, it is accessible from the central ramp, from the side of Lenin Avenue, and eight stairs (each 12 m wide) spaced along the Volgograd Arena perimeter. Via the overpass, spectators will get access to the arena’s lobby and further to its grandstands. The high-capacity stairs arranged along the perimeter of the stadium will provide the maximum convenient, quick and safe access to the stadium for all spectators.

Construction Manager Sergey Kamin has unveiled the overpass architectural features: “Having walked just one full circle along the overpass, stadium guests will enjoy the two prominent landmarks of Volgograd City – Mamayev Kurgan and the Volga. The overpass crowning the stadium outlines a kind of a five-pointed star – a sign which is the basis of the Order of the Great Patriotic War.”

In parallel, other works are carried out at Volgograd Arena. First shoots of ryegrass have been seen on the stadium’s football field. Over 75% of polymeric roofing has been installed. Work is in progress for the installation of tribune seats, utilities and equipment, interior finishing, fitting of the floor-to-ceiling glazing at the stadium and entrance lobbies, as well as landscaping. Over 2000 workers are involved in the construction. The works are being carried out 24 hours a day.
