Completion of sowing at the Volgograd Arena football field

JSC Stroytransgaz has carried out the sowing of grass on the football field of Volgograd Arena. For sowing, 750 kg of the mixture of several types of ryegrass have been used, which will grow in 1-2 weeks depending on weather conditions.

The complex of agrotechnical measures for lawn care will be carried out when the grass is fully grown, i.e. watering, mowing, feeding with mineral fertilizers, as well as additional lighting. The field will be sown with a polymer fibre as soon as its root system is formed. The stabilization of the field, which is carried out in this way, will considerably increase the durability of the lawn and reduce the risk of injury to athletes.

The foundation of the field consisting of several layers of various materials has earlier been completed, and utilities have been installed. A positive temperature in the root zone will be maintained with the help of the heating system which includes pipelines with a total length of 36 km. This will allow matches to be held even at low temperatures. The drainage and aeration system will ensure rapid removal of excess moisture and saturation of the root zone with oxygen, and will create conditions for a qualitative growth of grass. A professional irrigation system, including 24 sprinklers located on the territory of the field, guarantees a 100% coverage of the field during irrigation.

Agronomists will monitor and analyse the state of the soil on a daily basis with the help of the field special built-in sensors. Diagnostic system, utilities, as well as professional equipment for lawn care will ensure proper functioning of the stadium’s field. 

In parallel, other works are carried out at Volgograd Arena. The polymeric roofing is more than 50% ready. It has high mechanical strength, weather resistance and luminous transmission. Work is in progress for the installation of tribune seats, utilities and equipment, interior finishing, fitting of the floor-to-ceiling glazing at the stadium and entrance lobbies, as well as landscaping. Over 2000 workers are involved in the construction. The works are being carried out 24 hours a day.
