The future venue for FIFA 2018 World Cup Russia™ has seen the completion of the work to stabilise the root system of the turf by sewing it through with polymer fibres. The process originating from the Netherlands allows improving the drainage properties of the root zone, increases the wear resistance of the turf by more than three times and reduces the risk of injury to athletes.

The sewing-through has been done on an area of 8,000 sq.m using approximately 48,000 km of artificial fibres—nearly 8,000 km more than the Earth’s equator length.

At the same time, STG is landscaping and revegitating the area adjacent to the stadium, with installation of utilities and floor-to-ceiling glazing and finishing work continuing. More than 90% of the translucent polycarbonate roofing and over 37,000 seats on the spectator stands have been installed.
