Stroytransgaz will perform phase 1 of the Bagaevsky hydroelectric complex construction

Stroytransgaz JSC (STG) won the tender and signed the contract for phase 1 (preparation period) of the Bagaevsky hydroelectric complex construction on the Don river, near Arpachin hamlet in Rostov region. The State Customer is the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation. The Customer is the Federal Agency for Sea and Inland Water Transport  (Rosmorrechflot) The developer is Federal State-Funded Institution “Administration for the Azov-Don Basin of Inland Waterways”. Stroytransgaz is the General Contractor. The project will be implemented to solve the problems of navigation in the Volga-Don waterway and water supply of the Rostov and Volgograd regions.

When executing the project STG will construct a bypass channel to transfer the navigation pass for the period of works, a construction base jetty, electrical transmission lines for the camp power supply, and will build-up reclamation areas to accommodate the administrative buildings and hydroelectric complex facilities.

On April 23, 2012 an official ceremony dedicated to the start of construction was held. The ceremony was attended by the RF Minister of Transport Maxim Sokolov, Governor of the Rostov region, Vasiliy Golubev, Deputy Minister of Transport of RF - Head of Rosmorrechflot Victor Olersky and General Director of Stroytransgaz JSC Mikhail Khryapov.

Maxim Sokolov called the start of the Bagaevsky hydroelectric complex construction a momentous event having been awaited by the entire transport industry for a long time. “The project execution will enable increasing the Volga-Don channel pumping capacity, ensure the navigational safety and development of export transport infrastructure alongside with solving the task of regional dependable water supply and rehabilitation of the Tsimlyansk reservoir being the biggest one in the south of the country”, - denoted the RF Minister of Transport.

Mikhail Khryapov mentioned that Stroytransgaz have been actively working in the Rostov region for over 5 years. He as well assured that STG will timely and qualitatively fulfil their obligations for the phase 1 of construction planned to be completed in December, 2018.

Vasiliy Golubev announced that construction of the hydroelectric complex being a part of the new regional economics will accelerate the transport system development and solve a number of problems in navigation, fish-breeding, melioration and water supply. The Head of Rostov region reminded on low-water periods serially threatening the Don region with navigational and water supply collapse and mentioned that construction of the hydroelectric complex will allow solving the Don river preservation issues.     

Construction of the phase 2 facilities (main hydroelectric complex facilities and water reservoir ares infrastructure setup) is planned for 2018-2020.
