STG started construction of the third start-up complex at the Krasnogorskaya Interchange

JSC Stroytransgaz started the construction of the third start-up complex of the multi-level transport interchange at the intersection of the Volokolamskoe and Ilyinskoe Highways. The customer is the State Public Institution “Road Construction Administration” controlled by the Department for Transport and Road Infrastructure Development of Moscow Region.

During implementation of the third start-up complex, a 388.5 m overpass will be constructed, as well as the respective approaches. Eleven pillars will support the artificial structure. STG’s builders will redevelop cable lines, outdoor lighting system and storm water drainage. They will also reconstruct 490 m of the Volokolamskoe Highway and lateral driveways. Upon completion of the construction, a compensatory planting of 1,927 trees and 2,633 shrubs will be carried out.

“The new overpass will provide for a convenient exit road for residents of the Pavshinskaya floodplain in the direction of the region, connect the neighbourhood with the Volokolamskoe Highway, and relieve automobile traffic in residential area. In accordance with the project, the turnaround overpass will provide for one-lane traffic,” said Project Director Peter Ponomarev.

The Krasnogorsk Interchange project is being implemented in three phases. In parallel, STG carries out works on the first and second start-up complexes of the multi-level transport interchange at the intersection of the Volokolamskoe and Ilyinskoe Highways. Installation of superstructure on the right side of the overpass on the main course of the Volokolamskoye Highway over the Riga railroad has been completed. The left side of the overpass is being built, installation of pillars of the artificial structure has been completed and pre-assembly of the superstructure steel structures has begun. Reconstruction of utilities is underway, and two overground pedestrian crossings and one underground pedestrian crossing are being constructed.

Completion of major construction and installation works within the first and second start-up complexes is scheduled for the end of 2018, which will allow us to open the road to automobile traffic and eliminate traffic jams in this transport hub. Construction of the third start-up complex will be completed in 2019.

The interchange will have a total length of about 9 km, six lanes going from the Volokolamskoe Highway, four lanes going from the Ilyinskoe Highway and two more lanes from the Penyaginskoe Highway. Total traffic capacity of the new facility will exceed 80,000 cars per day.

The first start-up complex includes the construction of the right direction of the overpass on the main course of the Volokolamskoe Highway over the Riga railroad. The traffic flow will be organised on a temporary basis using two lanes per direction. Thus, already at this stage, the traffic jams formed at the intersection of the Ilyinskoe and Volokolamskoe Highways will be eliminated.

To ensure safe and easy movement of residents of adjacent districts the overground and underground pedestrian crossings will be constructed.

The second start-up complex includes the construction of the left portion of the overpass on the main course of the Volokolamskoye Highway over the Riga railroad, overpass at the off-ramp leading from the Volokolamskoye Highway to the Ilyinskoye Highway, overground pedestrian crossing over the Ilyinskoye Highway and bridge across the Banka River.

The third start-up complex provides for the construction of the turnaround overpass on the Volokolamskoye Highway in the territory of Moscow and approaches leading to the artificial structure.
