An attendance record was made at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium at its opening day

An opening ceremony of the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium having been constructed by JSC STG for the FIFA World Cup 2018™ in Russia was conducted on May, 6. On the same date the third (final) test match was played at the arena: “Olimpiyets” (Nizhny Novgorod) defeated “Luch-Energiya” (Vladivostok) with the 1:0 score.

The opening was attended by 42,100 spectators having made a new attendance record of the Football National League games. “This record means that the stadium has started its lifetime and has already become a new centre of attraction in our city”, - denoted Acting Governor of Nizhny Novgorod region Gleb Nikitin.

The opening ceremony started from a minute of silence in honour of the fallen during the Great Patriotic War. At the Victory Day eve Gleb Nikitin appealed to thank the veterans attending at the stadium. The Head of the region delivered an address for the guests having mentioned that the stadium “is as splendid and gorgeous” as the city of Nizhny Novgorod. The spectators stood up to express their gratitude to those involved in construction of the arena and preparing the city for the FIFA World Cup 2018.

To celebrate the arena opening, at the area in front of and inside it there was a concert and an entertainment program organized with participation of People's artist of Russia Dmitry Malikov and DJ Topchiy, dancing groups, and football recreational facilities
