STG proceeds to launching overpass superstructure in Krasnogorsk

AO Stroytransgaz has proceeded to launching the superstructure on the left side of overpass in Krasnogorsk, which is planned to pass above Riga direction railway section. The works are implemented as part of the second start-up complex of the multi-level road junction at the intersection of Volokolamskoe and Ilyinskoe Highways.

The total length of the superstructure will be as much as 253 meters. Man-made structure will rest on six piers. Construction of the piers required 2 850 tons of structural steel and 7 400 cu.m of concrete. At the beginning of August STG constructors are planning to launch overpass superstructure directly above rail tracks.  

At the same time STG is working on the first and the third start-up complexes. Construction of the right side of overpass on the main transit flow of Volokolamskoe highway through Riga direction railway section is being finalized. Erection of turnaround ramp at Volokolamskoe highway has started in the territory of Moscow city. Rearrangement of utilities and the Banka river rectification works are underway, two overground and one underground pedestrian crossings are being constructed.

“The work is progressing according to the schedule. Some 300 specialists and 80 pieces of equipment are involved in site construction. In the fourth quarter of 2018 the main construction and installation works will be finalized at the overpass site. The new route will be opened to normal traffic unjamming this hub,” noted Peter Ponomarev, the Project Director. The project is planned to be launched in full at the beginning of 2019.

The length of the junction will reach about 9 km, the number of lanes will increase to six from the direction of Volokolamskoe Highway, four lanes will be arranged from Ilyinskoe Highway, and two more lanes from Penyaginskoe Highway. Total traffic capacity of the site will exceed 80,000 cars daily.

Additional information

In 2015 STG signed a contract for the construction of the first start-up complex, and that for the second and third start-up complexes was signed in 2017. The customer is the State Public Institution “Road Construction Administration” controlled by the Department for Transport and Road Infrastructure Development of Moscow Region.

The first start-up complex includes construction of the right side of overpass on the main transit flow of Volokolamskoe highway through Riga direction railway section, rearrangement of utilities and rectification works of the Banka river.

The second start-up complex includes construction of the left portion of overpass on the main transit flow of Volokolamskoe highway through Riga direction railway section, overpass at the off-ramp leading from Volokolamskoye to Ilyinskoye Highway, overground pedestrian crossing over Ilyinskoye Highway and a bridge across the Banka River.

The third start-up complex provides the construction of the turnaround ramp on Volokolamskoye Highway in the territory of Moscow and accesses leading to the man-made structure.
