The FIFA-2018 Games Were Played at Volgograd Arena

The Volgograd Arena stadium constructed by JSC STG completed its participation in the FIFA World Cup 2018. In 18-28 June the Arena field successfully hosted four group matches between such countries as: Tunisia and England, Nigeria and Iceland, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, and Japan and Poland.

The team of Tunisia lost 1:2 to England in their first game of the Championship. The team Senior Coach Nabil Maâloul denoted that “the field is of a high quality and the arena is splendid. This is one of the best championships in the history, I have seen several of them”.

Well-known sports reporter Victor Gusev, who had commented the first FIFA-2018 game in Volgograd, said: “The game is attended by 41,064 spectators ̶̶ this is almost full stadium. Before the match I tried to find the most inconvenient seat and sat at the first row behind the goal, and it was still good view. This is what is called a modern football stadium”.

The national football team ex-coach Leonid Slutsky highly appreciated Volgograd Arena as well.

He mentioned that the hero city has deserved such an impressive sports facility. “The World Championship is a great event for Volgograd. It’s my first visit to Volgograd Arena and I admire it,” ̶̶ the famous coach commented to journalists.

FIFA highly appreciated availability of Volgograd Arena for the disabled. “The stadium is one of the most convenient Football Championship stadiums for disabled people,” ̶ twitted the FIFA General Secretary Fatma Samoura.

The stadium attendance record was set on June, 28, when the FIFA- 2018 group stage was finished. Volgograd Arena hosted the Japan-Poland game. On that day 42,189 spectators came to the stadium. During just 10 days the Championship matches were attended by 161,000 football fans from all over the world. Totally nine goals were scored during the FIFA-2018 matches on Volgograd Arena. At the same time no team managed to hit the goal more than twice. The eldest player in the World Football Cup history ̶̶̶ Egyptian goalkeeper Essam El-Hadary, 45, artistically played in the duel with Saudi Arabia.

After the FIFA-2018 is over the stadium will become a home arena for local football team Rotor. The team is going to play their first game at the stadium in late July this year.
