Capital Repair of the Dedinovo Crossing Photo: ferry crossing after capital repairs

Capital repair of the ferry crossing on the Oka River in Dedinovo village, Lukhovitsy district, Moscow Region, is close to be completed. Stroytransgaz started works in 2018 by order of the Mosavtodor State Financed Institution in Moscow Region. Dedinovo ferry crossing is the only fast and convenient mean for the settlement residents to cross the river, which is 350 meters wide. The ferry is intended to carry 50 passengers and 30 cars, as well as to carry trucks and machinery. The total load carrying capacity of the ferry is 260 tons.

As part of the capital repair project, works were performed to replace the metal structures of the access ramps and the devices that provide vehicle access to the ferry. One end of the access ramp is fixed, while the other end can be raised or lowered by winches installed on the pylons, depending on the current water level, creating comfortable conditions for drivers. Fluctuations in the river water level can reach several tens of centimetres per day even in summer. In addition, the concrete structures of the berth supports were completely replaced, new pile grillage, transition slabs and footplates were installed. The winches and the cable that prevents drifting of the ferry during travel were replaced. In winter, capital repair of the ferry vessel was completed, the bottom and side cladding was replaced, corroded structures of the bow and stern frame were restored, and the anchor chain lifting mechanism was reworked to prevent water from entering the bulge.

Two new towing boats and rescue equipment were purchased from the shipyard in Kostroma. Running and shunting tests were carried out on the river Volga in Kostroma, as well as starting-up and adjustment operations for boats with new hookup mechanism as part of the ferry. During the capital repair, the slopes of the approaches were reinforced with concrete, the embankment was reinforced with Larsen sheet piles and lined with Shtarkom blocks. The rainwater sewage and the treatment facilities, power lines and lighting were constructed as well. A flat-bottomed airboat with a propeller for 8 people was purchased for passenger transportation during winter ice conditions and for rescue operations during low water emergencies.
