STG Is Reconstructing Tupoleva Street in the City of Zhykovsky in the Moscow Region

Rendering of the reconstruction of Tupoleva Street

The decree issued by the Governor of the Moscow Region allowed the activities at the transport infrastructure facilities. Furthermore, the reconstruction of Tupoleva Street involves the continuous cycle activities, in particular, the alteration of utilities. The large-scale reconstruction of Tupoleva Street in the city of Zhukovsky in the Moscow region started in 2018 and, according to the design, shall be finished in the 4th quarter of 2021.

In July 2018, Stroytransgaz signed a contract with the Road Construction Administration for the reconstruction of Tupoleva Street designed by VTM-Dorproekt, such reconstruction being planned in line with the Area Planning Scheme of the Moscow Region and included in the state program of the Moscow region "Development and Operation of the Road and Transport Complex".

The reconstructed 2.7 km long section lies between the road junction at the intersection of Tupoleva Street and Tupolevskoye Highway, and the bridge across the Khripan River. As prescribed by the contract, STG reconstructs the motor road from two to eight lanes (up to four lanes in both directions, including the alternate routes). The estimated driving speed along the new thoroughfare will be 70 km/h with a prospective traffic flow of about 50 thousand vehicles per 24 hours.

In the course of project execution, a two-level interchange, five above-ground pedestrian overpasses, and a 713 m four-lane tunnel near Gromova Square, including a 280 m closed section, will be built. The existing bus stops at Gromova Square will be altered. In addition, the surrounding area will be landscaped and improved, in particular, conifers and shrubs will be planted.

At the moment, the right-of-way is being cleared off forests. Over 60% of the designed scope of work have been completed. The replacement of glazing has been completed by over 70% of the area.

Four above-ground pedestrian overpasses are being built at the stage of erection of supports. The foundations, the reinforcement and concreting of the pedestrian overpass supports, the semi-knock-down assembly of the first superstructure, the assembly of metal structures have been completed, and the protective glazing has been carried out for 25% of the support metalwork. The activities related to the above-ground pedestrian overpasses have been completed by 50% and will be finished in full in the 4th quarter of 2020. Tupoleva Street will be widened and the traffic intensity will increase, therefore, the above-ground pedestrian overpasses will allow the pedestrians to walk safely and comfortably and will be accessible by people with reduced mobility.

To ensure a free passage of transit vehicles to Ramenskoye, and the traffic of local vehicles at Gromova Square, a two-level interchange with a 720 m long 4-lane tunnel is under construction and shall be completed in the 4th quarter of 2021. Also, special auxiliary structures and facilities are being installed: 65% of all cast-in-place piles, that is 988 pcs out of the 1520 pcs announced, and about 25% of jet grouting piles, which is equivalent to 18,920 m out of 75,677.7 m, have been completed. The construction of a motor road has been completed by 15%, which is 324.8 m out of the 2030 m designed.

Regardless of the fact that the activities are being carried out in the extremely confined city area with a minimal distance between various altered utility networks, such utilities as the water pipelines of D160 mm, 2XD225 mm and D315 mm, the sewage pipeline of D200 mm, and the heating network HN1 can be referred to the completed stage of reconstruction. The activities related to the alteration of the sewage pipeline of D500 m and D1400 mm, telecommunication networks, and cable lines are nearing their completion.

At least 80 people, and 25 construction equipment units are engaged at the construction site at the same time.

The project is important because it ensures the transport accessibility for the users of the social, cultural, scientific & engineering, and industrial facilities in Zhukovsky and the adjacent areas. Before the project execution started, the level of load and the traffic capacity of Tupoleva Street that had one lane in each direction had not allowed to ensure a proper transport accessibility. Furthermore, an additional load was due to the transit traffic from Ramenskoye.

The execution of the reconstruction project will allow to synchronize Tupoleva Street with the previously built access road to Zhukovsky (Gromov Flight Research Institute) from M5 highway "Ural", to provide access for vehicles to the National Centre of Aircraft Construction, and generally improve the road traffic situation in the city of Zhukovsky in view of its future development.
