Asphalting of the interchange on Frunze street – Frunzensky bridge crossing is completed

JSC Stroytransgaz has completed the process of asphalt laying at the interchange on Frunze street, which is part of the Frunzensky bridge crossing. The total surface area of the road structure on which the last surface course was laid accounts for more than 93,000 square meters. The length of the interchange roadway on Frunze street is about 2700 meters.

For the construction of the surface course of the interchange, stone mastic asphalt was used. This durable coating has become widespread in our country relatively recently. Its specific feature is the materials used in its manufacture. The basis of the material is a high-strength crushed stone made of igneous granitic rocks that makes up the framework. The bitumen volume here is greater than in other types of asphalt concrete mixes. To keep it in the mix during preparation, cellulose fiber-based stabilizing additives are added. As a result, the coating has a higher resistance to external influences and a longer service life. The characteristics of the materials used in the preparation of the material are compliant with the declared regulatory requirements and the requirements of the technical regulations of the Customs Union.

The total thickness of the pavement design is 1.02 meters and consists of six structural layers. Three layers of the design consist of asphalt concrete mixes of various types, the lower road bed - of crushed stone-sand mixture, treated with cement. Also, the road pavement includes a technological layer of crushed stone and a bedding course of sand. To create an additional solid reinforcement layer a Hatelit geomesh was laid between the layers of asphalt concrete.

Soon, work will be completed on the installation of sidewalks, signboards and traffic lights, road marking and other  elements of interchange on Frunze street.

For the period of operation, on the bridge across the Samara River, an Engineering Structures Monitoring System (ESMS) will be installed which will be used to monitor condition of the bridge, that is exercise continuous monitoring of the operation of the structure under service conditions using special technical means.

Background:

The Frunzensky bridge crossing construction project includes the construction of a six-lane composite-girder bridge across the Samara River (667 m long with a 22 m wide carriageway), a reinforced concrete bridge over the boggy Bannoye Lake (79.6 m long), a transport junction and overpass over the main route motorway on Shosseynaya Street (70.7 m long), a transport junction and five cast-in-situ reinforced concrete retaining walls on Frunze street, and the construction of the main motorway route. The new motorway will be 2.67 km long.

Construction of the Frunzensky Bridge is a top priority for Samara. The bridge crossing will connect Samara and Kuybyshev districts and ensure the flow of traffic towards M-32 and M-5 federal highways.  The project completion is scheduled for 2020.
