We would like to bring to your attention an  overview video of the construction of Museum, Theatrical and Educational Complexes (MTECs) in Kemerovo, August, 2020.

The Russian Federation President set a special task: to make our great culture open for the Russian people. To accomplish Vladimir Putin’s mission, museums and theatre-educational complexes will be established in several cities of Russia. One of such cities is Kemerovo, an industrial centre of Siberia. The future cluster in Kemerovo is part of one of the largest cultural projects of the recent years, thanks to which the city will become the cultural centre of Siberia.
Stroytransgaz JSC, as the general contractor for the project, has been carrying out the construction since September 2019.

On August 18, Glavgosexpertiza of Russia (State Expert Evaluation Department) reviewed the design documentation and the results of engineering survey for the construction in Kemerovo of the Higher School of Music and Dramatic Arts. Based on the results of the state expert review, a positive conclusion was issued.

The architectural design for a total area of over 100 thousand sq. m was approved by the regional centre of Kuzbass, its funding source and construction supervisor being the National Cultural Heritage foundation, the general designer is LLC Gorka (formerly LLC GorKapStroy).

The first start-up complex of the cluster construction project includes: academic buildings of the Choreographic Academy and the Secondary Special School of Music with a concert hall, a comprehensive school with a swimming pool, boarding schools for pupils of the Secondary Special Music School and the Choreographic Academy, an apartment building for teachers of the Higher School and the Choreographic Academy. The works involving the first start-up complex are scheduled for completion in 2021, when the region will widely celebrate the 300th anniversary of the commercial exploitation of Kuzbass.

The second start-up complex includes the construction of: a Higher School of Music and Dramatic Arts with an educational theater, a museum depository and a dormitory for students of the Higher School of Music and Dramatic Arts.

Also in development is an architectural concept of:

  • the Museum complex (a Branch of the Federal State Educational Institution of Culture "the State Russian Museum");
  • an Opera and Ballet Theater;
  • the Movie and Concert Complex ("Kuzbass Arts Center" with a concert hall and a movie hall).

The project is scheduled for completion in 2023.

The following works are currently underway: installation of a monolithic frame of buildings, excavation works for subsequent installation of utility lines, backfilling and compaction of soil for the Educational Complex; concrete pouring of the ceiling of the 2nd floor of an apartment building for teachers of the Higher School and the Choreographic Academy; installation of the reinforcement cage of the museum depository; transportation of soil for excavation backfill and installation of a monolithic frame for the basement of the Higher School of Music and Dramatic Arts; brickwork of external walls and interior partitions, installation of a monolithic framed walls and floor slab for the technical floor of a dormitory for students of the Higher School of Music and Dramatic Arts.

The following works have been completed: 74% concrete pouring of the monolithic frame of the buildings of the Educational Complex; building of the basement and 1st floor of the monolithic frame of an apartment building for teachers of the Higher School and the Choreographic Academy;

building of a monolithic foundation slab for the museum depository and the Higher School of Music and Dramatic Arts; building of a monolithic frame of the seventh floor and the technical floor of the dormitory for students of the Higher School of Music and Dramatic Arts.

The construction involved about 20 machines and vehicles and over 380 people such as construction workers, machine operators, engineers and technicians.

Project Background:

The task to create a new cultural centre was set by the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, in his Address to the Federal Assembly in 2018 and spelled out in detail in the Executive Order “On National Goals and Strategic Objectives of the Russian Federation for the Period until 2024”. Starting from September 2019 Stroytransgaz JSC became a new General Contractor for the construction of the facilities. The project owner is the Social and Cultural Projects Fund "National Cultural Heritage".

Creation of cultural, educational and museum complexes is one of the priority areas of the national “Culture” project implemented by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. The project will allow the Region to unlock its cultural and educational potential, arrange modern cultural space, change life quality of the residents through art introduction and, at the same time, make the city particularly attractive for visitors and tourists. Construction of the complexes will become one of the largest cultural projects of the recent years.

The cultural, educational and museum complexes in Kemerovo include the following facilities:

  • an Academic building of the Choreographic Academy;
  • a Boarding school for students of the Choreographic Academy;
  • a comprehensive school with a swimming pool;
  • an academic building of the Special School of Music with a Concert Hall;
  • a Boarding school for students of the Special School of Music;
  • an apartment building for teachers of the Higher School and the Choreographic Academy;
  • a Higher School of Music and Dramatic Arts with an educational theater;
  • a museum depository;
  • a dormitory for the students of the Higher School of Music and Dramatic Arts.
