JSC Stroytransgaz Completed Construction of the Frunzensky Bridge Crossing in Samara

JSC Stroytransgaz completed construction of the largest infrastructural facility of the Samara Region – the Frunzensky Bridge Crossing. The project execution is an important part of the Samara Region leadership strategy set out by Dmitry Azarov, Governor of the Region.

PROJECT PHOTO GALLEY (SEPTEMBER 2020)

The Frunzensky Bridge Crossing construction project includes construction of a six-lane composite-girder bridge across the Samara River (667 m long with a 22 m wide carriageway in both directions including safety lanes), a reinforced concrete bridge over the boggy Bannoye Lake (79.6 m long), a transport junction and overpass over the main route motorway on Shosseynaya Street (70.8 m long), a transport junction and five cast-in-situ reinforced concrete retaining walls on Frunze street, and construction of the main motorway route. The new motorway will be 2.67 km along the main route.

Not only the construction deliverables but also the process of the bridge crossing erection is of especial importance for the Region. More than a half of all construction materials for different facility construction stages has been supplied by enterprises of the Samara Region. They procured high-quality sand, concrete, metal structures, etc. for the construction site.

The Samara River Bridge is the largest element of the bridge crossing. The bridge superstructure consists of three parts, the longest of which (central one) is 595 meters. Facilities with similar characteristics are referred to the Unique and Technically Complex Structure Category. The total weight of the Samara River Bridge steel superstructures is over 9,000 t.

The bridge has passed a number of technical tests after the construction completion. Loaded dump trucks were used as a test load during dynamic and static tests. Test measurements were made using tensiometers (strain gauge) pre-installed on the bridge cover. The results obtained were processed by a specially developed computer program.

The tests showed that the facility met the project design data, so that the bridge facility may be used under A14 and N14 loads.

The facility is equipped with an aircraft and vessel alarm system. For the period of operation, an Engineering Structure Monitoring System (ESMS) will soon be installed on the Samara River Bridge, which will be used to monitor condition of the bridge, that is exercise continuous monitoring of operation of the facility under service conditions using special technical means.

Two completed interchanges located at Shosseynaya Street and Frunze Street that include 18 exits ensure a low-density traffic of vehicles moving along the Frunzensky Bridge in both directions. The total length of exits from the interchanges is 6.11 km.

All materials used for construction of the Frunzensky Bridge Crossing facilities have been tested for quality and compliance with the state standards not only at factories, but also in laboratories located right on the construction site. The laboratories were operating 24 hours a day, which enabled reference sample tests at any time and prompt recommendations on further construction and installation works. Using state-of-the-art equipment, laboratory experts checked the quality of concrete, soil, monitored the quality of welded joints in metal structures and many other parameters and requirements, strict adherence to which meant guaranteed quality of the facility.

The Stroytransgaz Group is actively developing the road construction business – its companies have built over 10,000 km of motor roads. After a large number of road construction projects, STG has gained the reputation of a reliable general contractor with expertise in construction of any transportation infrastructure facilities: roads, interchanges, bridges and tunnels, overpasses, etc.
