Dmitry Makhonin: “A special directorate will supervise the progress of the bridge construction across the Chusovaya River.”

While inspecting the bridge construction site, the Head of the Perm Territory emphasized that the project was to be completed by the end of 2023.

Today, on 20 May, Dmitry Makhonin, Governor of the Perm Territory, inspected the construction progress of the new bridge across the Chusovaya River – one of the largest projects in the region under implementation in the format of public-private partnership.

Three months after the last visit to the site, the Head of Prikamye examined the sites near Tsimlyanskaya Street, where a new traffic junction will be built, as well as the left and right banks of the future bridge. Since mid-February, general contractor JSC Stroytransgaz has increased the pace, so the work has been completed by 20–22% at the moment. Recently, on May 19, the first stage of launching was started on the left side of the future bridge: 25 meters of pre-assembled bridge metal spans will be launched with the help of jacks towards the right bank of the river.

Head of the region Dmitry Makhonin noted that the general contractor was performing the obligations assumed on 18 February and would be carrying out further work under the close attention of the regional authorities. “The company is to install all the 14 bridge supports – 2 onshore and 12 river priers – this year. The work is going on fully according to the schedule. We made sure that the bridge launching had already begun, but we are to continue monitoring the progress. For these purposes, a management decision was made to establish a special directorate at the Ministry of Transport of the Perm Territory, which will control the construction of bridges and implementation of concession projects,” said Governor Dmitry Makhonin.

It should be noted that the contractor is now daily reporting the work status to the Ministry of Transport of Prikamye. Besides, video cameras are installed at the facility to monitor the progress of construction in real time.

Oleg Abramov, Director for Infrastructure Construction Engineering Support of Regional Projects at JSC Stroytransgaz, said that the pace of work would grow. “Now about 550 people, over 100 specialty vehicles, and 12 barges are involved in the construction of the bridge, future junction, and road. We plan to engage the maximum of vehicles and employees in the construction during the summer season. To do this, we are gathering a team of bridge developers from all over the country – about 750 people will work in parallel. We plan to launch the bridge from the left bank to support 5 according to the schedule,” said Oleg Abramov.

Simultaneously with the launching, work is currently underway to build 8 channel supports at the facility: the sheet piling of the foundation pits for the future supports is being mounted, the grillage of support No. 3 is being formed. On the right bank, bored piles are being installed on supports Nos. 12 and 13.

The next stage will be to further assemble the bridge span sections on the left bank, which, as far as they are ready, will be connected to each other and launched towards the right bank till the 5th support. The rest of the span structure will be launched over from the right bank towards the left bank, also up to the 5th support.

In parallel, a production site has been deployed in the area of Tsimlyanskaya Street – at the future transport junction, which will be connected to the Eastern bypass and take car drivers to the Levshino microdistrict. The new overpass will consist of seven supports. Currently, work is underway there to install supports Nos. 1 and 2, as well as to prepare sites for the construction of supports Nos. 5 and 6. In addition, work has been resumed to build a left-hand overpass in the area of the settlement of Palniki and entrances to it (piling of support No. 1, construction of an embankment for the roadbed of access routes, construction of retaining walls is underway). At this facility, it is planned to provide an abutment to the existing road, then dismantle the old overpass and begin work to build a right-handed overpass and exits. At the same time, road work is in process – delivery of materials, arrangement of bypass roads and the roadbed for the new Eastern bypass highway.

Summing up the inspection, Head of the Region Dmitry Makhonin emphasized that it was necessary to complete the facility on time – by the end of 2023. “This bridge is important to everyone – both summer residents and inhabitants of the Upper Kama Region and northern part of the region – everyone is waiting for traffic jams to disappear at this section of the entrance to Perm. Our task is to make people's lives more convenient and comfortable as soon as possible,” pointed out the Head of the Region.

Let us remind that the new Chusovskaya River bridge with relief access routes is under construction according to a concession agreement. The contractual price thereunder exceeds RUB 13.4 bln.

As soon as commissioned, the bridge will become part of Moscow - Kazan - Perm - Khanty-Mansiysk - Surgut - Tomsk transport corridor. Renovation of the existing bridge and construction of a new one will eliminate traffic jams at the crossing over the Chusovaya River, particularly in the summer cottage season. Plus, the new bridge is to improve traffic between Perm and major cities in the north of the Perm Territory, which are subject to continuous development at the moment. This is important both for people and for cargo transportation.

The total length of the Chusovaya River bridge together with access routes will be 9.2 km. There will be 4 lanes. The net length of the bridge will be 1.5 km. The new bridge will take on half of the traffic load. The distance between the axes of the two bridges, the old and new ones, will be 18 meters.
