A meeting on the construction of the M-12 highway was held on May 5

A workshop on the construction of the M-12 highway was held on May 5 with the participation of Vyacheslav Petushenko, Head of the State Company Avtodor, Mars Gazizullin, First Deputy Chairman of the Management Board of the State Company, and Vladimir Lavlentsev, General Director of JSC Stroytransgaz, and other contractors’ heads. The meeting was focused on the discussion of work plans for the near future and production plan implementation, mobilization of labour force and equipment, working conditions for shift workers. Installation of the asphalt-concrete pavement on the entire highway section shall be completed in 2023. JSC Stroytransgaz performs the first stage.

Site preparation is actively underway at almost the entire length of the M-12 route (more than 800 kilometres from Moscow to Kazan) along with the transfer of communications, which do not require permission from the State Expert Review authority (Glavgosexpertiza).

In addition, the following works are carried out: construction camp equipping, completion of technical roads, erection of dormitories and canteens. Asphalt plant launching and construction of haul roads for delivery of building materials and equipment to the new route location are in progress.

Active preparatory work, workshops with contractors’ management and prompt resolution of fundamental issues will allow commencement to construction immediately after obtaining a positive opinion of the State Expert Review for projects for each stage of highway construction.

In parallel, a comprehensive design of all 810 kilometers of the highway is underway. For a number of sections, new technical solutions are required. M-12 is a unique object, 40 kilometers of which pass along the Oka and Sura river floodplains, where a roadbed drainage is required.

The М-12 highway will accommodate three unique bridgeworks. A bridge across the Volga river with a length of over 3 kilometres will be built by JSC Roads and Bridges at the 8th stage. A cable-stayed bridge across the Oka river and a monolithic bridge across the Sura river will be erected by JSC USK MOST at stages 4 and 6 respectively.

The highway is of strategic importance – it is part of the route linking Moscow with Beijing. All regions and countries, through which the road would be constructed, will get a substantial boost and the economic effect is expected to be enormous. Only 4 years are provided for the construction.
Stroytransgaz JSC is implementing design and construction of the first section of M-12 “Moscow – Nizhny Novgorod – Kazan Highway under-construction”.

It is a special project for Stroytransgaz and GORKA Group. The length of the four-lane section will be 80 km. It will pass through Moscow and Vladimir regions. The highway will be used as an alternative to M-7 “Volga” highway. Speed, performance and traffic capacity of the highway will significantly reduce travel time between Moscow and Kazan and increase traffic flow by relieving the M-7 "Volga" highway. Opportunities of the neighbouring regions such as jobs, education, entertainment will become accessible. Business will also gain advantages. For instance, the territory attractiveness for production facility development will increase as the sales markets will become closer.
