Yu. Trutnev, Plenipotentiary Representative of the President in the Far Eastern Federal District, is Satisfied with the Progress of Coast Protection Works in Magadan

НYury Trutnev, Plenipotentiary Representative of the President in the Far Eastern Federal District, paid a working visit to Kolyma. On Thursday, 15 July, during the working visit, Yu. Trutnev inspected socially significant construction sites in Magadan including a road section under reconstruction and coast protection works in the Nagaev Bay. In March 2020, Stroytransgaz signed a state contract for construction and installation works to strengthen a section of the Sea of Okhotsk coast in the Nagaev Bay near the Portovoye Highway and Portovaya Street.

Magadan Commercial Sea Port is the largest in the north-east of Russia. This port is of strategic importance for the Magadan Region, it is the major transport hub for the supply of fuel and cargo. Up to 99% of the cargo, all solid and liquid fuels, heavy equipment and construction materials enter the region through this hub. In 2015, the port's cargo turnover amounted to 841 thousand tons. Portovoye Highway is the only road connecting the Magadan Commercial Sea Port with the city of Magadan and the rest of the region. A section of the highway was heavily damaged after heavy rains and floods in 2014 and 2017. It is in a critical condition, and, therefore, in dire need of reconstruction. The highway partially runs along the seashore which is very waterworn and poses a threat of the highway downfall. In addition, the situation was complicated by intensive traffic of trucks to and from the port.

The coast protection works cover 365.96 m, while the lengths of the retaining wall and Portovoye Highway section under reconstruction are 192.97 m and 242 m respectively. The completion date of the facility is December 2021. However, construction and installation works at the facility are almost completed. Dmitry Uvarov, Chief Engineer for Hydraulic Construction of JSC Stroytransgaz, reported it to the Plenipotentiary Representative. Currently, asphalt coating of the highway is at the completion stage, after which construction of a sidewalk and landscaping of the slope to the shore will start. Yury Trutnev, Plenipotentiary Representative of the President in the Far Eastern Federal District, appreciated what he saw. Sergey Nosov, Governor of the Magadan Region, added that preparations are underway to improve the pedestrian zone along the coast.

“I hope everything will be beautiful, we have been helping Magadan to arrange this territory for a long time, and I want most of the work to be done this year,” said Yury Trutnev.
