Video Overview of the Portovoye Highway Coast Strengthening Project in Magadan (July, 2021)

The Portovoye Highway Coast Strengthening Project underway by JSC Stroytransgaz is at the completion stage. Watch the current status of the construction site in the new video overview

Portovoye Highway is the only road connecting the Magadan Commercial Sea Port with the city of Magadan and the rest of the region. A section of highway was damaged after heavy rains and floods in 2014 and 2017. It is in a critical condition, and, therefore, in dire need of reconstruction.

Today, final work is underway simultaneously in the upper and lower sections. External sewerage networks – back-drop manholes and water outlets – are being laid on the shore, where a comfortable embankment will be developed in the future. While at the Portovoye Highway, a foundation of reinforced concrete slabs (with a height of 18 cm) for the road surface is being constructed.

The advantage of such slabs is their special strength. Similar ones are used for airfield roadbeds. In contrast to the “crushed stone” more frequently used in Kolyma, the reinforced concrete base is capable of withstanding the heaviest loads.

In May 2021, JSC Stroytransgaz entered into a state contract for R&D, as well as construction and erection works to protect another section of the coastline of the Sea of Okhotsk from Mayak Part to the Infectious Diseases Hospital. The construction of the coast protection facilities will eliminate the risk of collapse, increase the recreational area for the city’s population and give an integral and finished view of the coastal area in the Nagayev Bay.
