Governor A.Yu. Vorobyov Checks Progress of Tupoleva Street Reconstruction in the Near-Moscow City of Zhukovsky

A.Yu. Vorobyov, Governor of the Moscow Region, has checked the progress of Tupoleva Street reconstruction in the city of Zhukovsky located near Moscow. The works are performed by JSC Stroytransgaz as part of the national project “Safe and High-Quality Motorways”.

A ride along Tupoleva Street in Zhukovsky will take only 10 minutes, and getting to the Novoryazanskoye Highway – only 15–20 minutes. Reconstruction of the road will be completed by the end of the next year.

‘It is an important road. Half a million people live here; Ramenskoye and Zhukovsky see intensive development. I would like to ask you to actively continue construction, so that in a year we can meet here and open this road to traffic, said the Governor to the construction workers.

Andrey Vorobyov received a request for widening of the carriageway and enhancement of the road convenience and safety from the residents of Zhukovsky, which is a naukograd (science city) and centre of aircraft industry and radio electronics. In the morning and evening time, traffic congestion on Tupoleva Street can reach 7–9 points, especially in the direction of Ramenskoye. One can be stuck in traffic for 2 hours.

‘The reconstruction is of great importance for us  the city is small but there are a lot of vehicles in it. The road is narrow, and the traffic is always congested. We always have a hard time getting to the nearest city of Ramenskoye, and getting to Moscow can take as long as three hours. We expect significant improvements,’ said Natalya Ivleva, a resident of Zhukovsky.

The reconstruction is carried out within the section from the road interchange at the junction of Tupoleva Street and the Typolevskoye Highway up to the bridge across the Khripan River. A four-lane tunnel with the length of over 700 m is currently being constructed under the Gromov square. It will provide for unhindered passage of heavy trucks from Ramenskoye and in the opposite direction. The carriageway is also being widened, it is intended for non-stop traffic. Five pedestrian overbridges will be constructed for the road; these will, among other things, be adapted for people with reduced mobility.

‘As part of the construction, we have reconstructed two relief roads, reopened them to traffic, and arranged pavements,’ said Pyotr Ponomarev, Project Director of JSC Stroytransgaz. ‘Two traffic lanes were available here before reconstruction; this number will increase to 4–8 once the reconstruction is completed.’

The Tupoleva Street section to be reconstructed is a continuation of the approach (built in 2016) to Zhukovsky from the M-5 Ural Highway. Completion of works will allow for increasing the motor road capacity, redistributing the connecting traffic, and improving the motor vehicle accessibility of Zhukovsky and Ramenskoye urban districts. This is especially relevant, considering the prospects of their further development.
