Handrails of the Embankment in Volgograd Being Installed

Installation of handrails of a new pedestrian overpass has started on the reconstructed lower terrace of the Central Embankment in Volgograd. The total length of the handrail will be 187 linear meters.

To date, about 90 linear meters of metal handrails have been installed. In addition, the builders are preparing the mounted spans to install granite paving stones. A 18 meter wide and about 80 meter long pedestrian bridge will allow residents to quickly and safely cross the lateral road.

The construction of the central element of the recreational area, an amphitheatre for 2,300 seats, is also underway. The employees are completing the installation of utilities and have started finishing the interior.

Just to remind, a large-scale renovation of the central embankment has been undertaken for the first time since its construction. Reconstruction of the coastal area in the Central District of Volgograd started with the installation of bank protection structures followed by the construction of the Zero Longitudinal Highway. These activities were the basis for further development of the 62nd Army Embankment. In particular, Iskustvo (the Arts) fountain on the upper terrace was reconstructed during the reconstruction of the embankment. A reflection basin with a bridge, a flat fountain, a skate park, a new lawn and 13,000 plants have appeared in the park area. The contractor has restored the propylaea, rotunda, central staircase and 28 small staircases.

The lower terrace of the embankment with an area of 16 hectares will be decorated with more than 10,000 trees and shrubs suitable for Volgograd climate. Green planting management will include 45 irrigation zones with more than 10 kilometres of irrigation water supply and about 9 kilometres of drip irrigation system.

The landscaped lower terrace of the 62nd Army Embankment will become part of a single recreational area along the Volga bank from the Mamayev Kurgan to the Floodplain of the Tsaritsa River. It already includes the area near Volgograd Arena stadium, Victory Park, the renovated upper terrace of the city embankment and a park near the Russia. My History museum, a garden square near the Gasitel fire boat, Pushkin garden square and Pakhmutova garden square.
