Test Layer of Asphalt Concrete Laid As Part of the First Phase of M-12 In Vladimir Region

An asphalt concrete plant (ACP) was put into operation at the Pokrov construction base as part of the first phase of M-12 high-speed federal highway (Moscow – Nizhny Novgorod – Kazan). It produced about 800 tons of mixture to make the first test layer of asphalt concrete.

This ACP is capable of producing 160 tons of asphalt concrete per hour. In total, four ACPs with a total capacity of 600 tons per hour will operate at the first phase of M-12. Two ACPs have already been commissioned.

The site laid with the test asphalt is located near the junction with M-7 Volga federal highway in the Vladimir Region. More than 20 road workers and 30 pieces of equipment were involved in the construction of the test asphalt concrete layer.

M-12 will be a Category 1 road with 4 lanes, 2 in each direction. The SP 32-E asphalt concrete mixture is used to build the asphalt carpet coat. It is suitable for roads with heavy traffic and designed for extreme loads. It contains a unique binder designed for weather conditions in Moscow and Vladimir Regions.

In total, 1,060,00 m³ of sand and 1,440,000 m³ of crushed stone are used for the construction of the main course of the road. The concrete aggregate is delivered by railway. The length of this phase is 80 km, the construction of a temporary road has been completed along its entire length.

The first phase of M-12 provides for three production bases and six temporary storage sites. The base in Annino has already been arranged.

In addition to the ACP, a ramp was built to unload concrete aggregate from railway cars at Pokrov base. The phase construction headquarters are also located there. A hostel site arrangement and construction of a metal warehouse are underway. The construction of hostel No. 1 has been completed, and the arrangement of hostel No. 2 and assembly of the headquarters continue.
An asphalt concrete plant and a site for components of stone and sand mixture were built at the base in Vasilyevka.

Utility reconstruction works as part of the phase are underway. They include the relocation of power lines, gas pipes, water pipes, communication cables. The construction of a 96 m long twin culvert with the diameter of 2.5 m is expected to start in winter 2021-2022.
