Preparation of the Construction Site for a Museum and Theatre & Educational Complex on Orlinoye Gnezdo Hill Continues in Vladivostok

In early September 2021, at the Eastern Economic Forum, the public of Primorsky Territory was presented with the concept of a museum and theatre & educational complex built by Stroytransgaz Vostok on Orlinoye Gnezdo hill in Vladivostok. The construction of a new Far East cultural centre will be completed in 2023 and now the workers are busy preparing the construction site, mainly the foundation pit.

Every day, almost a dozen special machines "bite into" the very difficult and hard rock to widen and deepen the pit. Since the beginning of autumn only, trucks have removed almost 50,000 m3 of excavated rock from the construction site.

In addition, STG Vostok employees continue to reinforce the pit fencing. A new secant pile installation phase has started. These are structures preventing the penetration of groundwater through the walls and their collapse. Each pile of 0.8 m in diameter penetrate the soil to 20 meters. By this September, 564 such structures had been installed around the perimeter of the pit and now the workers have started to install Phase 2 secant piles, and 19 out of 500 have already been installed.

At the same time, the workers install solid cast reinforced concrete beams and fore shafts.

To provide comfortable conditions for residents of the nearby houses, a special noise-absorbing fence will be installed between the construction site and the residential area in the near future. This solution will not only significantly reduce the noise level, but also increase the daily work period.

It is also planned to expand the access road to the construction site, build temporary water and power supply networks and install a transformer substation.

A project for taking the heating main from the construction area based on a permanent layout is under approval.

To recap, the complex on Orlinoye Gnezdo Hill will represent a composite architectural project consisting of three buildings, a museum, a concert hall and an educational building. It will house branches of the country’s largest museums, including the State Hermitage, Tretyakov Gallery, the Museum of Oriental Art and a branch of the Mariinsky Theatre.

Construction of the cluster will not only unlock the cultural and educational potential of the region and secure the status of its tourist and cultural centre, but also help expand cultural ties with Asia-Pacific countries and improve the insight of the Far East residents and foreign tourists into the best pieces of the Russian culture.

The task to create four new cultural centres outside Central Russia was set by the Russian President Vladimir Putin in his Address to the Federal Assembly in 2018. Later, it was specified in the Executive Order On National Goals and Strategic Objectives of Development of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2024. The construction was commissioned by the National Cultural Heritage Foundation for Social and Cultural Projects. Stroytransgaz JSC is the general contractor for the construction of cultural and educational complexes in four Russian regions. In addition to Primorye Territory, such clusters are built in Kemerovo and Kaliningrad Regions, as well as in South Russia.
