Progress of Marina Construction in Gelendzhik

Next year, a modern seaport for passenger vessels, motor and wind-driven boats of various classes will be commissioned in Gelendzhik. The general completion status of the facility is 69%. The Russia’s largest yacht complex for at least 200 yachts will also be located in this Black Sea resort. It should be noted that the Government of the Russian Federation has approved the national yachting development concept up to 2030. Krasnodar Territory will be a development centre. The onshore and offshore infrastructure facilities will be built by Stroytransgaz. The facilities are built under the Development of Russia’s Transportation System Governmental Programme.

The project provides for the creation of major facilities such as south and north quay piers*, marine and port fleet berths, navigation aids, a fire-fighting pumping station with a sea water intake. In addition, the company will dredge the passenger port water area and marine water area, perform coastal protection works, install anti-landslide retaining walls, and make off-site improvements, including parking areas.

We cover the progress of work at the construction site.

The construction of the piled substructure at the South Quay Pier has been completed. 1,239 piles were installed at the design level, reinforced and embedded in concrete, 11,000 m2 of geotextile was laid. The bottom was reinforced with 14,500 m3 of stones and the South Quay Pier head was dumped using 1,560 m3 of sand.

Support beams and permanent metal form panels weighing 286.4 tons were installed on the upper structure** of the South Quay Pier. At the final stage of platform embedding, 7,300 m³ or 90.8% of the total scope of works have already been completed. The upper structure is built along with section by section concrete casting of seawalls (29 sections in total). To date, the work has been completed by 90%.

As part of the North Quay Pier construction, all plies have been installed at the design level, reinforced, embedded in concrete and sand-filled, geotextile was laid and the bottom was stone reinforced. Today, the North Quay Pier head is dumped (the amount of sand used is 1,380 m3). The scope of outstanding works is 10%. Support beams and permanent metal form panels have been substantially installed on the upper structure of the North Quay Pier (97%). The installation of embedded parts is in full swing, the scope of completed works is 36 tons. The concrete embedding of upper structure platforms of the North Quay Pier has started.

At all berths, piles and tubular sheet piles have been driven to the design level, the lower pile plugs are concrete embedded and the piles are filled with sand and crushed stone.

At berth 1, the construction has been completed, save for the installation of a reinforced concrete head. To date, 48 m3 or 23% of the total amount have been completed.

At berth 2, reinforcement cages are installed inside the piles and tubular sheet piles, the body of the berth is filled with stone, the upper plugs of the piles and anchor beams are concrete embedded and anchor rods are installed.

At berth 3.2, dumping stones into the body of the berth is nearing completion, it is 80% complete. The installation of support beams and permanent metal form panels is underway, the anchor rod and retaining wall are concrete embedded.

At marina berth 3.3, reinforcement cages are installed inside the piles and tubular sheet piles, the upper plugs of the piles are concrete embedded, anchor beams and permanent metal form panels are installed.

5,100 m2 of geotextile has been laid as part of coastal protection of sections 1, 2, 3. Stone dumping is nearing completion. 196,300 m³ or 56% of the total dredging works have been completed.

On the engineering land plot, stone dumping in the amount of 28,810 m³ (100% of the total amount) has been completed.

Stone dumping into the body of the dock of the Ship-lifting facility and a slip for boat launching is underway. Tubular sheet pile driving to the design level has started.

Foundation at the site of the distribution transformer substation has been built. Power transformer, the substation itself and 20 kW bays are installed.

Every day over 100 persons and about 20 pieces of equipment are engaged at the site.

The future seaport in Gelendzhik will ultimately be an integral part of Gelendzhik Marina tourist and recreational area with hotels, apartment units, a yachting school, a yacht club, a thermal spa complex with year-round indoor and outdoor swimming pools filled with seawater.

The project for construction of onshore and offshore infrastructure facilities will play an important social & economic role in the town development as the new comfortable environment will allow to strengthen the town’s tourism appeal and will, in turn, have a positive effect on the town economy and quality of its residents' life and promote the development of maritime transportation routes of the coastal region.
