The Chusovaya River Bridge Superstructure Launching from Right Bank Commences in Perm Territory

At the construction site in Perm Territory, employees of AO Stroytransgaz commenced launching of the superstructure of the Chusovaya River bridge from the right bank of the river towards Support No. 5 (of 14). Launching of the first part of the superstructure (330.4 meters long) towards this support from the left bank had been completed previously. The total length of the bridge superstructure upon completion of launching shall be 1.5 km. Staged launching process will be used: first, steelwork of the superstructure will be assembled on a building way (platform), then launched towards the supports with the use of jacks. The start of this key stage of the project coincided with the 25th anniversary of commissioning of the existing bridge, which is a ‘twin’ to the one being constructed – the acceptance commission signed the bridge commissioning certificate in late November of 1996.

The works on the bridge supports construction are still ongoing – the bodies of Supports Nos. 8 and 9 are being erected, and foundations are being constructed for Supports Nos. 6, 7 and 10 through 13. Icebreaker vessel operations are a part of the project.

According to Dmitry Makhonin, Governor of the Perm Territory, the facility is of particular importance for the residents and for the development of the regional economy, therefore, its construction must be completed on time. “The bridge is important to everyone – summer residents, population of the Upper Kama Region, and residents of the northern part of the region – everyone is waiting for traffic jams to disappear at this section of the entrance to Perm. Our task is to make people's lives more convenient and comfortable as soon as possible,” said the Head of the Region earlier.

The construction of the Chusovaya River bridge and improvement of the interchanges covered by the concession is one of top-priority projects currently being implemented by Stroytransgaz Company. The works are being vigorously conducted under the schedule approved this February. Two-shift work pattern is being used. Well-coordinated team efforts ensure smooth going of the construction process. The construction site is well-supplied, and I exercise supervision over the construction personally,” – states V.A. Lavlentsev, General Director of Stroytransgaz.

At the same time, other facilities are being improved and constructed as part of this Project, which is the most expensive public-private partnership project being implemented in the Perm Territory:

  • superstructures of the overpass at the ‘Eastern Bypass – Tsimlyanskaya Street’ intersection are being pre-fabricated;
  • 4 of the 7 supports of the new right-hand overpass are being constructed in the vicinity of Palniki railway station: cap of Support No.3 is being erected, foundations for Supports Nos. 4 and 6 are being constructed, while the pile foundation of Support No.5 has already been completed.

In addition, the access roads leading to the future bridge are being improved. Some sections of the Eastern Bypass and the ‘Perm – Berezniki’ two-lane motor roads will be widened to become four-lane, and a median barrier will be constructed. A few days ago, the traffic was switched to the completed left-hand part of the main route on sections of both roads. The total length of the newly constructed section is 2.45 km. The traffic switch will enable Stroytransgaz employees to work on the right-hand part of the road, i.e. to commence dismantling of the road surface, arrangement of the subgrade, re-arrangement of utilities, installation of culverts and storm water drainage system, and to ensure availability of the required construction materials. The remaining operations (construction of the road surface) are planned for spring/summer of 2022.

Project background:

The Chusovaya River bridge under construction will be a part of the ‘Moscow – Kazan – Perm – Khanty-Mansiysk – Surgut – Tomsk’ transport corridor. When commissioned, the bridge will help to eliminate traffic jams at the Chusovaya River crossing and ease the traffic. The project provides for improvement of the interchange near the village of Palniki; new interchanges will appear at the intersection of Solikamsk highway with Korsunskaya Street, as well as at the ‘Eastern Bypass – Tsimlyanskaya Street’ intersection. The new bridge will be a ‘twin’ to the existing one. It will be located 18 meters away from the existing bridge. The length of the four-lane bridge under construction will be 1.5 km (9.2 km including the approaches).
