Construction of an Overpass Started in Lyubertsy

October Avenue in Lyubertsy is one of the busiest streets in the city. The Government of the Moscow Region decided to reconstruct the avenue to improve the transport situation there and unload the road. Stroytransgaz Group is reconstructing Phase 1 of the large-scale project.

Currently, work has begun to build an overpass between Krasnaya and Smirnovskaya Streets – this is the key element of the reconstruction. Its length will be 473 m, and together with retaining walls – 741 m, width – 18.8 m, height – 8.5 m. The total number of lanes will be 4, two in each direction.

“At the moment, the builders have begun to install piles for the artificial structure supports. They have driven test piles. A total of 821 piles for 15 overpass supports are to be installed. The work is planned to be completed by the end of 2022,” said Aleksey Gerzhik, Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure of the Moscow Region.

The work is carried out using special equipment – press-in pile drivers – not to cause discomfort to residents. This pile driver uses its own dead weight to drive piles into the ground rather than applying additional vibration or impact.

“In our case, piles are driven on supports using the press-in method. This method helps avoid an impact on the surrounding buildings, dynamic, noise loads, and environmental impacts,” said Petr Ponomarev, Director for Infrastructure Construction Project Management of JSC Stroytransgaz.

The regular traffic on the overpass is scheduled to be launched in 2023.

At the same time, the construction of a new storm sewer, reconstruction of utilities, arrangement of pedestrian zones, and laying of asphalt concrete pavement on side driveways continue at the reconstruction site. At the end of July this year, it is planned to begin the construction of a pedestrian underpass at the intersection with Krasnaya Street.

The reconstruction site has a length of 1.5 km along the main road and 2.9 km along the side driveways. The road will be expanded from 4 to 8 lanes. When implemented, the project will increase the capacity of Oktyabrsky Avenue by 35%, and the drive time on the highway will be reduced by 20–30 minutes.

To ensure road safety, 2 pedestrian underpasses will be built, 3 traffic lights and 7 bus stops will be installed.
